Paint job

Ok, I finally decided to paint my car after getting tired of the "vintage" peeling paint look. It's a 1986 Z28 with the wide grills on the hood. Any ideas on a cool colour? A couple of ideas I had was Competition Yellow with Black race stripes, or Midnight Blue with Silver Metallic bits in the clear coat and Metallic Siver ground effects.

I've always really liked the metallic blue color on the 3rd gens. I had an IROC in that color and really liked it. I'm not a huge fan of competition yellow so I'd have to go with the blue

What does everyone think of midnight blue with metallic bits in it, the ground effects the same colour as the car, and two silver metallic racing stripes going from front to back? btw, what is a good width for the stripes with my wide hood grills? Should they just line up width the top edges of it? anyone got pics?

I'm not a big fan of 'metallic bits' in clear coat; oxidation, chipping, and other problems that will be sun/heat related. I'd go with a nice tri-coat color, that will give you the depth you are looking for with out compromising your finish's integrity.

I don't think you'll want any metallic flakes in the clear..if you are trying for a show-quality finish, your paint man might want to D/A down your last coat of clear with 1500, then 3000, then buff with a foam pad to get a mirror-flat finish on your panels. Putting metallic in the clear would not allow him to do that, plus, as someone else said, if you get chips or anything in the paint, the metallic will be out of that spot, and it will look even worse than it actually is.

And FWIW..I have not seen but 2 Yellow Z's, and IMO, they looked awesome. Another color that looks good is the older Corvette (92-93) Brandywine color.
My Z is Purple Pearl Metallic, and I am looking at those 2 colors when I get ready to stick mine in the booth. Either that, or I may do a HOK candy version on the car.
Different is in, and no disrespect to anyone that has the colors, but red, black, green, and white Z's are a dime a dozen. You can put all the spoilers, GE kits and different rims on 'em, but the paint is what really says "look at me".

Good luck.
