Actually, if you dont pull it out right...there is a black cylinder of rubber that goes down the middle of the ****, and its a bitch to get out. I just left it in the ones that it stuck. Is there any way to change the lights behind the *****?

in my opinion no. They look cool off (navy blue clear plastic) but when those lights kick on, you still see that crappy yellow-white light through it, with a blue tint around the edges. Also, i let mine soak in the dye for like 3 minutes to get them nice and dark. i think with blue lights behind them it will look better

Nope, I tried that once. They are white underneath (not clear).

I did this mod when I first got the car. I never thought about dying them though. I have been looking around for a small colored bulb that would fit into the HVAC for a while so if anybody finds them let us know. Also, an easy way to tell if yours are clear instead of white is if there is light shinning through the **** on the little strip that shows where the HAVC settings are. If it lights up then you have clear *****, if not thenyou don't. You can see that the **** for your lights on 97-02 are white underneath because it does not light up that little strip. I bought a HAVC **** to replace the light **** but some tricky cutting is involved that I haven't felt like doing.

as far as lights behind the *****, look on ebay for High Intensity LED's, make sure they are 12v regulated, then just wire them bad boys in there
