new c6 steering wheen in camaro

i was on the vette forums the other day and saw the new steering wheel...it looks awesome. i was just wondering if anyone has seen any in camaros or tried to put one in camaros. other GM cars have the same or similar designs too, with the center pieces changed to represent pontiac or other GM cars. the new GTO and Vibe GT have the same wheel, and there is another car from pontiac that has it too...but the corvette wheel has aluminum pieces where the radio controls are and it has the vette logo on it

any way, here's a pic of the new wheel

the bottome pic isnt what i saw, it looked more like the top one with the corvette logo in it, and where the center piece connected the the wheel piece it was aluminum, not black. but this looks awesome too.

anyone know about this?

You may be confusing the new C6 "standard" steering wheel (what you linked in the bottom link above), and the new C6 Z06 steering wheel. The Z06 wheel is a smaller diameter than the standard C6 steering wheel, and has the metal trim on the more horizontal spokes. I don't think you will find too many new Z06 steering wheels floating around until the car is introduced as a 2006 model.

Yeah, the regular C6 steering wheel looks like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Not sure if you want that in your car.

The upper steering shaft in the Camaro/firebird steering column is the wrong size to be able to use that wheel . The center hole in ALL new GM steering wheels is smaller , with the exception of the GTO ....its much larger .

Re: new c6 steering wheen in camaro

so i'll have to get an adaptor made. like a cog to put in it's place. i'll have to get a machine shop to remove the one out of the wheel and replace it with the one from the camaro...not so difficult...couldnt cost more than about 75 bucks...at the most. i'll talk to the body shop around the corner, they do everything.

Or you could simply swap your upper steering shaft . I did this because I wanted a stock pontiac steering wheel with radio controls , but with a rim thicker than the puny shoestring TA wheel . I used a 2004 bonneville steering wheel . The upper shaft you need is in all 97-up w-bodies , 97-current minivans , 2000-current bonnevilles , 97-current corvettes , the new malibu , G6 , cobalt ect. . That shaft size with the smaller metric spines would match the hole in the new Z06 wheel , also that upper steering shaft directly swaps into the F-body steering column . ***I wouldnt do that though if I had a functioning airbag period . My 04 bonneville wheel looks like it has a airbag , but the inflator has been removed , so no chance it would ever go off , and it took about 3 lbs off ***

If you cant find the shaft used , it is close to $200 from the dealer . And even after the Z06 comes out ( not till summer ) , you are gonna pay an absolute fortune for the steering wheel . Its gonna be almost impossible to find a used one bacuse the first few wrecked ones are oddly enuff already spoken for and would never see a bonyard . New Gm steering wheels can cost over $800 , and thats without the airbag . You dont even wanna know what the airbag would cost new , lol . Even used , when it should happen to come up , given that its in a Z06 , its model specific ....would cost upwards of $500 for just the airbag alone . Thats if it was separated from the pass. side and all the modules and airbag pcm .

While it would be cool , It'd be a safe , unless you had some MAJOR hookups , you'd have $1500-2500 in the swap right now because youll be forced to buy a new wheel and airbag . I guarantee you wont see that wheel used for a long time . I know that market pretty good . What you will see though are the variations of it . The new Chevy HHR , Pontiac G6 coupe( only ) , pontiac solstice , saturn sky , saturn aura are all going to using that steering wheel . None of them are even out yet though .

Dont mean to be the downer , I just thought Id save you alot of wasted effort . This might be a realistic budget swap like 4-5 years from now
