Neons..
Neons..
What do you think of neons on American cars? My friend has a 92 red mustang gt, and wants to put some red neons under it, do you think there is any way you can tastefully do this?? Ultimately its his car and he will do what he wants to it, but I just want to know your thoughts on neons.
Most guys will tell you they are rice. I have a purple neon under car kit that I haven't installed yet on my 02 silver firehawk. Gotta get my sfc's in first. They look deadly at night on the cars I've seen.
I saw a polo green camaro just like mine with green under body neons, it didnt look all that bad...he also told me he had a v6 with twin turbo and all wheel drive
...I just laughed and said mine was bone stock except for the exhaust, if that even counts...the only reason I think people classify neons as rice, is because you only see them on foreign cars...Ive seen some really nice silver camaros with orange or purple underbody neons that look deadly....and I think when its really dark outside my buddys 92 gt red with red neons would look pretty good..

Neons are an old hotrodders thing, the import crowd just picked up on it. They can look good if done right, as in you should not be able to see the tubes, the color should work with the car and the color should "flow" from under the car.
I think they are alright but just like what was stated before they went out of style hell I was gonna get some white ones but they just got more and more boring the more I saw them
(I'm definantly putting them on my truck though
)

they look good when done right......u should NEVER be able to see the tube.....i only thing they should classified as "rice" if not done properly like i was driving down the street the other day look over and just see this massive GREEN light coming from this dudes car im like wtf it was like a camry dude has like a 20" neon tube mounted to the roof behind the rearview mirror WTF!? and it was gold!!!! green and gold?!?!?
then a friend of mine drives a 97 tiburon lol got a green underglow kit cause the car is green but the back neon wouldnt fit under the car and he has one of those NASTY high rise spoilers he strapped the green neon to the highrise spoiler and hooked it up to his BREAK LIGHT!!! so when ur behind this guy and he breaks u get BLINDED by green ohh god awful....i have a red neon hardwired in my hatch cant see the tube or the wires looks nice same with under my dash
like i said done right looks good.

I like them, but of course i have them on my car, orange underbody kit. But like everyone else said if you cant see them thats the best way. You can see my side bulbs a little but my front and back you cant see at all.
I think im going to go for it...Where is the best place to get a kit and about how much do they cost..i saw some on ebay for 20 bucks, came with 1 front tube, 1 back tube, and 2 sides..is it hard to make them hidden on camaros or something?
i love mine. i've had 4 different kits with as much as 3 on the car at one time.
i currently have a white set of 4 and a red set of 4 along with 30 other feet of neon inside and out. if it's tasteful and only adds a glow effect it can look sharp. if you pick the wrong color and you can see the tubes it's tacky.
streetglow gold series is the best on the market expect to pay between 130-160 for a set of 4 with a transformer. anything more your getting taken.

go to pep boys and spend 60 on a set then. won't be as bright or last as long but if that's alot right now it may be your better option.
if you have any electrical knowledge you should be fine installing it. otherwise most places will charge upwards of 125-200 for install.
the neons typically include 4 tubes and a transformer. with streetglow gold kits you run the tubes in series making a loop connecting the ends of the circle to the two wires off of the transformer. the transformer has to be grounded via a metal backing plate and a toggle switch is ran off of the "power" or hot lead wire coming out of the transformer. just fuse the switch and your done.
this is of course for on/off useage....if you want to get more tricky you can also tie it into your alarm system or i even have all of mine on separate keys to a remote so i don't have to be in the car to turn them on or off.
