need to throw 'some' paint on the car....soon
Not a total repaint and I am not doing a major color change, but I want to get something on there other than the GM not-black black. Wife has said make it so, but I need to conserve funds for mechanicals that need addressed as well.
94 formula with factory orig paint on rear quarters, roof, hatch, and rear bumper cover. Jams and such are still good. New door hinges were already painted and installed. Waiting for the lower window rail to get replaced before getting the windows tinted again.
Dog house has been in primer/base coat only since I repaired from a 'fence' incident in late 2005. That primer/base coat is looking a little sad these days.
Also...got scratches below the beltline that won't buff out. I've thought about touchup...buff on those and still doing something with the front.
Current idea is to use a VERY DARK gray metallic and blend into the jambs.
Here is a line I was looking at doing for a little something different.

The color contrast will be subtle. I am just tired of the plain black (and the unpainted nose). Metallic will break it up some and dk gray will lighten the color a little without taking away the luster.
Other option is to paint every thing below the belt line the dk gray. That'd require (maybe) me painting the hood/headlight doors/fender tops/top of nose black again, but that's not a big deal.
Anyone got some color codes for a good dk gray metallic....?

hi here is mine its a toyota color called black mica it has alot of pearl in it and the color changes in the sunlight and shade and the stripes are paint not stickers its house of kolor kameleon green to purple click on the link to see
Hmmmm. Black Mica....
I was thinking I'd seen an import or two with a color like that.
Got a color code for it and any idea how much it might run a quart...?
I'm going to yank both front fenders to get them into good shape so I'll need some so I can hit the tops/bottoms before throwing them back on.
I could skip the jambs on everything else and just blend that color right in and it wouldn't look dorky.
How much metallic does it have...? I could make out some from the photos, but most were taken in direct light and that kind of makes it hard to distinguish.
Like the color. GM's black on our cars isn't black (has white, red, yellow, green, and gray in it), but this color is even less black, but is still black.
What did you used to mould the nose pieces...? 'Glass...? I really hate using the urethane junk I picked up because it doesn't sand well. Flex junk either cracks or splits paint anyway it you hit something. I figure 'glass is as good as anything....right...?
I'd like to graft 98-up firebird fender vents into mine and I want to made a slight change to the fascia.

i do not have a color code off the top of my head cus the car its self is in mass and i am in pa right nw the price would be around 60 bucks a pint you can get the code from ppg i did not do all the jams just the doors and thas it sorry i do not have any close up pics of the paint but there is a **** load of pearl in the paint thats why its a little prices i would not mold the side on a car again too flexable they are starting to crack i need to remove them and put them on the normal way front and rear i would do again like that on another project they seem to hold up well
Hey Doug, if memory serves me right I think someone on kyhorsepower recommended the same color and provided the paint code as well...
**edit** - ok memory was wrong...Adam suggested a honda nighthawk black that has a blue pearl and left the paint code...

I'm indifferent about the paint line. Personally... to me... it would look better if you went with SEVERAL lines. Similar to the Puma logo, so you can tell it isn't just a weird paint mistake.
Sort of like the graphics on here, but obviously black and charcoal or something.
