My rant on painting. Am i wrong?

So, i wanted to paint a few panels on my car that weren't perfect. I figured id start with my 1/4 panels becasue they had apparent flaws. I read a lot, talked to a lot of helpful people, and practiced a little with a friend. I went out and bought all my tools, safety stuff, materials.

Setup my garage with air filters, medical exam lamps, etc. I mask off the car did the body work.

My colorcode was faded from water, looked like 83/55 or 85/55 It is a black 97 camaro with stock paintjob. I called 2 dealerships to verify and they both told me 41u 984a. I went to the dupont paint supplier and bought the primer, base, and clear from them. Told them what the dealerships told me and he said thats all he needed was 984a. I had my car with me and also my roof from my ttop conversion. I asked if he should double check with any of that and he said no.

I got home and started painting. The black seemed to have some sparkle in it but i thought it was normal and when i was done wetsanding and such, it would match right. So i laid down 3 basecoats and 3 clear coats, i then did the wetsanding and buffing the next day and it is definetnally apparent that there is some metallic flake or silver in this paint.

Does anyone know what this silver is in it and why it is in there? Did isay anything wrong at the store. I think that they should reimburse me by remixing me the correct color and some more clearcoat because i spent close to 200$ there only to get the wrong stuff. Was the 984a code wrong? I did ask 2 dealerships and they both gave me that and thats what i told the guy so I dont know what to do.

I just feel that I got ripped off with the labor i put in and i will have to do it again because this guy didnt want to double check on my car or they mixed the wrong color (possibly didnt clean the machine before mixing mine).

they either got flake in your mix or your spray gun had flake in it from a previous job, i have done that before. Where in mi are you located, i may be able to get you some paint.

he had a new gun so nothing from a previous job im sure they mixed it wrong or something either that or both dealerships gave him the wrong color code the dude from the paint dealer should have looked at the parts and would have realized while mixing that silver should not be in the paint its either silver or pearl that he put in....... if they give you move paint get the formula 1st and check it make sure it doesnt say anything about pearl or silver in it.... you did a damn good job too...

The store met me at halfway. They gave me the right basecoat as well as a little more than i originally got from them. they made my buy the additional clearcoat that i would need. It's not that bad I guess. Now ill repaint what i need and possibly use the remaining sparkled paint to make some wicked racing stripes. (I have to think about that though)
