Question Molded on kits

Does anyone have an idea what the body shop charges to mold on a body kit? Also, what shops do this type of work, auto painting or repair shops?

I would assume it would be a body shop that would mold a kit on. I want to get my new GFX molded on so TTT because I want to get an idea of what price I should expect.

Before I molded my kit on (decided to do it myself), I received quotes anywhere between $1,500-$3,000. Our kits do NOT just mold on. They require extensive modifications before molding it smooth. IF you want to tackle part of the process yourself you can easily cut the cost in half.

The cheapest route is to go with a collision company. Keep in mind most bodyshops will NOT even consider it. Also, Cali is the cheapest place to get it done.

I highly recommend 2020 Autobody Tech if you want it done right:

"...Unlike other places where side moldings are simply shaved by filling in the indentation with Bondo or other material, we weld in sheet metal to provide the durability and quality for long everyday use..

Molding - Molding consists of joining to parts of the body into seemingly one unit. Molding consists of attaching one part of the body permanently to another by using variety of materials or methods. We can mold side skirts and vents into the body of the car. We can mold hood scoops and other scoops on the vehicle. Flat deck wings, and rear doors (4 door) are also common molding procedures.

Custom Body Kits - Taking virtually any kit available on the market today, we are able to custom fit the kit to your specific vehicle. 2-door side skirt available for your car only? No problem. We can extend the side skirt to fit your 4-door's need. A'98 only kit won't quite fit your '99 model? Well, let us help you out. Come in and let us know what you need, and we'll do everything it takes to meet your needs.

Wide Body - Wide body and fender flares are body components, which enhance the wheel wells of a vehicle. It adds to the vehicle a muscular and aggressive look. The pieces are riveted and molding onto the body of the car. Time is taken to make sure the pieces are secure and flawlessly adjoined to the body of the car."

FYI - Brent94Z actually has a Firebird "Car of the month" with a custom molded kit.

The owners email is PCFirebird@aol.com

He might be able to tell you how much it cost him.

I paid 600 to have mine molded on, pics are in the sig. The guy did say 1100 but then I said cut me a deal or else I'm leaving. He knocked mine down to 600. So with newway's price on the body kit and the guy doing it for 600, I paid a little over 1k for my kit plus molding on. Don't let people rip you off dude, offer him a fair price. Walk in with 700 or 800 and be like, mold my kit on and paint it? They will take it, or just walk away.

Cool

Call me crazy but I actually kinda like the "lines" produced when installing ground effects. On the Camaro, I think it looks pretty good

I agree about the lines created by the GFX. Molded on GFX look cheesy IMO(usually)

Unless the 2 are of the same substrate urethane-urethane... fiberglass-fiberglass.... sooner or later it will crack.

Unless you mold the kit on with bondo, hit a curb, (or a deer) they shouldn't crack.

I dont get the idea of molding if its still gonna be seamless. What I mean to say is, how is that molding if there are still the original seams caused by the gfx. pu12en12g, did you use bondo to mold them on? If not, what materials did you use?

White 30th read the link I posted above... it will clear things up.

Mine is fully molded (SEAMLESS) here are some before and after pics:
BEFORE(Look at the OBVIOUS lines where the kit attaches):
BEFORE molding bodykit

BEFORE molding bodykit 2

AFTER(Now you can see that the bodykit became a extension of the actual lines of the car):
MOLDED and prepped for paint!

MOLDED and prepped for paint ! 2
