In the middle of shortening A4 shifter, need advice

In the middle of shortening A4 shifter, need advice

The groove on the front and back of the shifter tube... What did you guys use to cut it? I've been using a cutting disc on the front one (which has been a PITA), and while it works, it leaves the bottom part rounded instead of squared off as I would like it. What did you guys use to cut those?

I used a dremel as well, but which bit were you using? The cutting wheels I have are about 1/2" in diameter, and they don't let me cut very precisely.
