Exclamation Manual Shift Boot in Auto + Gear Light Selector moved to dash!

I was thinking of how cool it looks to have a shift boot instead of that naked looking auto shifter. If someone could come up with a small pug in to run up to the dash and a small display with led's or maybe even indiglo to show the gear in the dash WHERE YOUR EYES SHOULD BE it would be nice. Although we should be used ot our cars and know where the gear is shifted it is still nice to look right there and see it. I am a valet and all the ncie new cars have this with a lil digital image. We're not even looking for somthing that elaborate and i'm sure it could be a kit that could be used on almost any car.

What do you guys think and for you elctronics guys how hard of a thinkg would this be to fabricate or piece together.

INput here!

Manual boot

I dont know if that's what you're talking about, but that's 90 Z28SS's car with a full manual valve body A4. Pretty neat, I wonder if it can be done with a thirdgen.

yea thats what i'm tlaking about, but now there is nothing showing what gear you are in. I think it would be awesome ot have alittle gear selector gauge thingy in the dash with the other gauges. the new cars have a small rectangle screen with
| P R N 1 2 3 4 | and a small square surrounds each character as they are selected. OUr cars shoudl have these, It is safer to have it up inthe dash anyway incase you want ot look down to see it. or if a girl drives the car.. :-P

How is it not safe to have the sift indicator on the center counsle. How often are you shifting when the car is in motion. On automatic cars, you shift when the car is stopped. How is it unsafe to shift when the car isnt moving.

Well, if you have a fully-manual valvebody... all the time....

Actually this wouldn't be too hard... a bunch of micro-switches would probably do the trick with some Resistor's and LEDs...

The hardest part for me would be describing to someone else how to do it...

The do sell kits for doing what you want though.... check out some of the street-rod catalogs and suppliers, actually I believe LOKAR sells exactly what you're looking for, but it's an add-on unit... if I had and auto and were going to do it.. I'd build it into the gauges.. a bit more of a project

And jawz. I let my old mother drive my car at times to give her a lil thrill because she nevber does anything fun and I don't want her getting confused etc. Just an older woman who isn't into cars.
