Making a z28 appear to be an SS?

I want to make my car appear to be an SS, (Sig for year) Is it possible, meaning do they make factory SS parts for z's and where could I get them?
And do all SS's have them cool rear bumpers with exhaust comeing out the center?

There used to be some SS parts that were only available from SLP for verified owners (to keep people from making clones). Not sure if it is still that way. Not all SS's had the center exhaust.
You are probably going to get some big time flames for posting your desire to make a clone. It's a sore subject for all those people that paid the money for the real thing.

The only year you could clone and look authentic is the 1996 since it's the only year that has the earlier style interior. You're going to end up spending quite a bit of money cloning your car to an SS. If you buy SLP parts, you might as well just look for an actual SS. By the time you buy the hood, spoiler, ram air box, wheels and tires and get everything painted, you could have bought the real thing.

its not. SLP stopped verifing owners now. I've been waiting for them to start back up so I can get my full SSOA membership.

You do know that the Z28 is the base for every SS right? There is no difference except what you see..

If you truely like the way the SS looks, you may want to consider swapping your car for one. Then again with an older car like yours, you may have some need for fresh paint and this project would suit your needs better.. In either case, do realize that there is no real performance difference in the SS and Z28.. Just the look..

There is a small performance gain to the SS. The shocks are upgraded. Z28 got Decarbons (sp) the SS got Bilsteins (sp). Otherwise you are correct, it is all a look.

Yeah, but we all have our opinions. I would get the real thing but, money is not free.

I wanted the outside to look like an SS nothing else. Which eliminates, ram air box, tires. I was going to get the hood (because its awesom) and wing anyways is this really such a bad thing?

Yes I know the z28 and SS are basicly the same car. I just like the hood and wing on the SS.

Look is what I was after.

I basicly want the wing and the hood, (only difference on the outside really) Maybe clone was just to powerful of a word. of course SS badages would be cool.

an SS clone is defined as any camaro made to look exactly like an SS. If you want your Z to look like an SS with hood, spoiler, wheels, and badges it would be an SS clone.

Really if you just like the hood and spoiler it wouldn't be much at all to get. With the big talk you should consiter upgrading the suspension, brakes and engine. Unless you really really want to don't badge your Z... like someone said on this board before...

"Any car can be an SS but only a camaro can be a Z28"

Personally I like the looks of the stock Z. For me the only upgrade I would do to the look is replacing the wheels with 10 spoke, otherwise its the feel and the sound that get attention.

The thing about cloning as SS is the parts on the SS are the best looking. The SS wheels are the best looking, the hood is the best, and the spoiler. So if someone was into changing all those parts....those are almost the only way to go.

This is all opinion of course.

Sometimes parts are cheaper/easier than going through the hassle of selling a car, hoping to get the most out of it, and buying a new car, hoping you get a good deal, and a good CAR. If you already know the car you've got, and have work into it, why bother with all that other hassle when you can buy just the parts you need to make it what you want?

Maybe because I'm a Z28 fan, I don't care if people do SS clones? If someone wants to badge their RS as a Z28, who cares?? I agree that the SS hood looks great, and I know that a lot of people like/prefer the rear spoiler too, so I see nothing wrong with adding them to your Camaro . I "personally" prefer the rear spoiler of the RS / sports appearance package, so that's what I've got. And that's what makes this world go around ... many different preferences, not just all the same thing .

I'm not made of money, plus capn pete gave the reason why I don't want to buy a new car.

If you want the outside of your car to look like an SS, you'd have to get some 17 inch ZR-1 wheels. If you don't already have 17's, then you would at least have to get the new tires. I also don't see much point in getting the SS hood without getting the ram air box.

I say go for it as long as you don't put SS badges on it.
