Well, now that my front end got obliterated, I'm going to upgrade to FF75 driving lights with "normals" in the lows, 100w in the highs, and then the fog lights for the fog lights. I could upgrade the bulbs in the stock housings, but I'm missing some of them now, and at $59 a pair, they're nearly the same as stock. I even get to upgrade the wiring while I'm at it. I'm going to do a full write up and install guide to do all of them over the next few weekends, I'll let everyone know when it's done.

That'd be great!!! I am gonna try to figure out some way to come up with some info on installing a relay on the stock wiring, but it may be hard since I am already done...

This is a bit different, but it is technically "lighting"- these are things i did in my 97 that i could do a writeup on if people are interested.
-I can do a write-up sometime on installing interior license plate neons under the seats.
-I also put a different color LED in my foglight switch.
-I put 194 bulbs in my speedometer for the reverse indiglo effect.

Also, when I changed out my clear corners, all i had to do was unscrew the 3 10MM nuts on the underside of the car that hold in the "flaps" on each side. (in fact, there might only be 2 nuts)- I did not have to take the air dam off. It wasn't difficult at all.

Also, Dalton, lots of input is great, but if there ends up being 4 different guides to do something, it might get a little confusing, so if you have time to collaberate everything into one install guide for each project (foglights, FF75, etc), that'd be great.
If there are differences, then you could just split it up into different methods (See Brent's 'changing out the fog lights' writeup- it has 2 methods). That way, you avoid redundancy and people can navigate the install more easily. Just a thought.

I would be interested in a little write up on the latter two things, I don't really dig neons...If you want to take some time to throw some stuff together, that would be cool.

The guide will grow as it goes, at least, that is the plan. Add more on interior lighting, etc.

The main key to that last part is
...so if you have time to collaberate everything into one install guide for each project...
If I have time, I plan to do that, but a well built, easy to follow, truly good install guide takes a lot of time to complete, which I don't really have a lot of. But I will do what I can.

Hey D and others,
I Just got my new 97 Z since my other one was totalled. It is black.
The front left lowbeam is out.

What do you recommend for low-beam lighting?
Should I do another 9006 bulb swap like last time?
if so, what 9006 bulbs should i get? (I know not to get Eurolites this time).

I have my old Eurolite High beams (9005) cuz they still work, so I'll likely do a bulb swap for the highs even if it's just a temporary thing. But what do you think for the lows?
Thanks,
J

It depends on if you are going to be doing any kind of headlight conversion anytime soon. If so, then I would just pick up a $5 Sylvania bulb from the parts store and be done with it...

I know you are watching the other thread about the high wattage bulbs, so you will see th update on the Luks when I give it there.

I plan to put all this stuff on my website, along with some comparison photos, for everyone's benefit.

Cool. yeah, i think i'll wait on the lighting guide. Right now my bulbs look like
[OO OX]- my left low beam is out. so i'm gonna take my right high beam housing and my left low beam housing and put my Eurolite highbeams in there, and in the meantime drive around w/ my high beam on like [O_ O_] so i have two headlights at least.
Then put in the highs, but i'll still be out a low beam...
hopefully by then the guide will be up and i'll have some direction in mind.
Lata,
J

i checked out wraith's 4th gen lighting guide in sig

i'd like to know how you installed those round lights in for headlights? are they pilots? how did you surround the lights and make it look good?

i'd appreciate more info on this, i currently have a set of oval pilots with running lights installed in place of my fog lights and love them. but i need to replace the headlights, they suck!

Wraith's site has a link to Brent's site for the PIAA light conversion. CHECK E-BAY! if you decide to go that route, as the PIAA's are expensive. But check his site again, there's a direct link on it. Or just go to Brent's site and check out the F-Body install and Fix It Guides...that should take care of you.

Try to get those Luks in for you soon J.

Eventually, whoever gets to it first, should capture MPEG video of our conversion. I have SOME video already including a 190W H4 setup, but my idea is to capture what our headlights look like compared to normal traffic. This is the only difinintive way to compare color temps for the average person who would be viewing the webpage/comparison.

A regular camera = Lies

Video = True color temps

I think one of out digital camera's here at work can capture so many seconds of video (30 or so I think...) If I can get access to it, which may be tricky, I will try to get some with my bulbs at least, and if it isn't possible for anyone else, maybe the 55w Hella bulbs that come with it. I don't know what I will be able to do, but I will see. I am just hosting this site on cz28.com to start with, so I won't be able to support video (AFAIK), but I plan on transferring it over to web1000.com when I get it going pretty good, which does support video.

Hopefully I can get to it soon, having the time is the problem. But yes, whoever gets to it, it would be nice to see what it was really like.
