i'm wondering how the CAI to ram air made the differance b/t losing to an LS1 and beating an LS1

for that money you coulda got 1.7RR and long tubes

I got a suncoast creations predator hood (non functional) when they first came out $972 with shipping plus $285 for paint. Its alot of money but the car gets a bunch of attention too. people are always taking pics of it. If i were you i would go with the factory ss hood, i think it looks bad ***

I got an SS hood soon after I got my Z... I still like it, but my taste changed. Now I wish I had bought the "cowl induction hood".

Anyone else wish they bought a different hood?

The ram air made a big difference. Not necessarily the difference between beating an ls1. I did other stuff to my car as well. But it was a definite noticible difference over the cai. I did the hood for the looks, the ram air was a plus. I have shorties with 3 inch y-pipe and 3 inch all the way back.

Question: I have a 1996 Z28 camaro and I want to mod it to a SS ram air hood with ram air tubes etc. What does it take to make the air intake functional and is it true that the newer SS's 96-2002... dont take the ram air from the hood intake. Some people claim the air intake in the hood is "fake" and that the air intake is located in a different area inder the hood.

Talking

The only non-functional ram air scoops from the factory I have seen are on mustangs. You can buy non-functional ss hoods. They are usually cheaper. If you want ram air. You need three things. A fuctional ss hood. A ram air box. You can get either a suncoast creations or a factory air box off a wrecked ss. I went with one off of a 1996 ss because they are the biggest airbox you can get. And the last thing you will need is hood seals. If you can get a used hood off an ss they will already be on there. otherwise you have to buy them from slp and you will need a vin#. They were like 10 or so dollars when i got mine. However, I think you can get the ram air kit for the impala ss and it comes with everything, and it works the same way i believe. Again the airbox isnt as big. Good luck to you. -Michael

Thanks for your help! I will check into that. I was wondering, how is the ram air mounted on the engine itself? Does it go in through the hole here the existing pipe enters or is it where the bolt on plate on the top of the motor is?

Going to the junkyard to get a SS hood sounds like a good idea. Probably souldnt be more than 300-400, I should check em out. I like the look of the SS hoods too, only I want it for looks. Im leavin my CAI in place. If anybody sees any SS hoods for an LT1 let me know.

Thanks

If you go look at your intake manifold you will see two screws ont he top towards the throttlebody. That is what the factory setup uses. It keeps it from moving around. Mine went on a 1995, so I had to trim up some little metal pipe with a pipe cutter to get mine to go on. However since u have a 1996 yours shouldnt have that problem. If it does. email me and i'll explain how to do that if you need me too.

chvycruzen- check the junkyards, but dont get your hopes up. I looked for a while and gave up. Factory ram air hoods off totaled lt1s are far and few between. They only made about 6000 or so over the two years they made ss's on lt1. It will prolly run you at the least 400. My buddy got one for 400. But the corners are warped up. so it sits a little higher than the fenders the closer it gets to the nose. It is noticible. If you can find one at that price, and it was in good shape, I would buy it if i were u. Good luck to you. -Michael

Well, I live in Pittsburgh for the time being. I see a lot of accidents everyday, so Im hoping there are going to be big junkyards with some Camaros in there. Hopefully I will find one.
