installing fiberglass hood

I have the harwood ramair/cowl hood and was wondering when you go to install it are you suposed to grind down the lip that runs all the way around it?
and will paint stick well to the caulk that they use to seal the edges of the hood?

Re: installing fiberglass hood

If you bought a cowl hood from harwood, chances are it should be a direct bolt on, less the sanding - priming - painting. There shouldn't be any "grinding" involved in making the hood fit, unless they made an error in the creation process.

Re: installing fiberglass hood

I have never seen caulk or seam sealer on a fiberglass hood. It could have mold lines though.

I gues grind it until it's close the sand it down with 80, 180 the 220 grit paper and prime. Just make sure not to make ripples in the fiberglass by staying in one place for too long. Could somone post a pic of this lip. I have never seen one like that before.
