Install Steering Wheel

Alright, I've pulled off my old steering wheel and a bunch of the other parts but the new hub I bought doesn't seem to want to fit on the steering colum. There is another piece on there still. It's metal, and kind of in the shape of a Y with 3 holes for bolts at each end of the Y. Just wondering if I need to pull that off and how I would go about doing it. My car is 1980 camaro z28 and it had a grant GT wheel on there that I pulled off.

Sounds like the "spider" that comes with the Grant wheel, and only works wit a Grant wheel. With a factory wheel, you would have to remove that piece. What kind of steering wheel are you trying to put back on it?

Re: Install Steering Wheel

It's an NRG steering wheel, 6 holes on it. Trying to install it on a blue hub that allows the steering wheel to become detached. How do I get that spider thing off?

Re: Install Steering Wheel

You will probably need a wheel puller. I'm not familiar with the older Camaros but I'm guessing there is a nut holding it in place on the splined end of the steering wheel shaft. You need to remove that nut then pull the mount off the shaft with a puller.

I'll try to take a couple pics when I get home today just to show everyone what I'm talking about, but I am guessing you are probably right Bud M.
