How much would it cost for an entire paint job?

Actually, After I think about it, I probably will not paint the roof or the hatch.
My car is metallic green, the following panels need to be painted:
Drivers side door
Passengers side door
Front bumper
Rear bumper
Both rear quarters
Passengers side rocker panel
And I would probably have to replace the rear bumper cover because it is cracked, and replace the Drivers Side Rear Quarter because filler was used on it at some point and a crack is starting to show.
I figured, with all the blending they would have to do, it would be easier to just repaint all of the panels.
However, the hatch and roof are far enough away from the adjacent panels, that they wouldn’t really need to be touched.
How much do you think the above would cost me?
Damn, I cant believe places can start at so much! Well I live in a border town, so I guess that has an effect on why things like that are so cheap down here. Because to keep people from going across to mexico to get it done, they have to keep prices competitive...the same goes for alot of products and services here...

nice reznor love the color. Now thats exactly what im talkin about why pay 15,000 when you can have a sweet paint job like yours for no more than 2,000. To me its a waste of money with that much you could mod the hell outa your car and ppl would still
drool and like the new paint job for 2,000.And I wasnt judging
on what ppl should pay for a paint job I was simply sayin If
you pay 15,000 grand for a paint job that could be done for 2,000
grand and almost look the same then there is seriously somethin
wrong.

I don't see how a 2k job would look similar to a 15k. There is no point in paying for a 15K paint job if it similar to a 2k. I just can't comprehend how a QUALITY shop can do a QUALITY job for 2K. To all of you that say you can get a quality job for that price, you're damn lucky. But I still say for that price you have a buddy/relative in the business or your not getting what I personally would consider a quality job. If I am selling the car and want to make it look good at FIRST glance I would consider a less expensive paint job. If I want the car to look good for years I will pay the extra. That is the main reason it still has the paint the GM slapped on there from it's birth, I'm poor.
A 92 yr old lady driving a 7? Nova took her bumper down the entire pass. side on JANUARY 2 of last year. I will NEVER forget that date! No real damage but paint. The cost of repair was $3400 after all was said and done. All paint and prep, no real body work. The ladies insurance wanted to payout somewhere around 1700 for a lower quality of work. The didn't care about clear lines being OBVIOUS, they didn't care that tape is like $6 per car cheaper than foam and they didn't care about the manner in which the paint and clear were applied. Basically, they didn't care and I did. I'm sure Maaco would have done it for 3-500 but then I would need a lawyer and bail money!
Like I said earlier, if you can get a quality paint job for 2K I envy you, honestly.

you can't do a quality 2k job for anywhere near a 15,000 job or even a 5,000 job. pictures don't do a thing for a paint. now i didn't pay 15,000 and if you read the post you could notice it; but i did pay more than 2,000 and it was worth every penny. the point i was trying to make is certain type of paintjobs will not be done for less than a certain amount. i was fortunate to find someone who would do it in the range i wanted. i wanted a classy look with a touch of custom that was hard to achieve but i managed to pull it off and i'm quite happy. the color sparkles like a disco ball in direct sunlight and changes colors under different accent light at night, yet in pictures looks stock for the most part.
you can never judge the quality of a car through a picture.........you can't expect a quality job for those little prices. unless your doing half the work yourself it doesn't happen. you guys can believe what you want, but if you don't repaint the complete car and strip it well you won't have a nice paintjob. you'll have a good one.........maybe.

I got my car painted at maaco last year, their ultra urithane package... my car was stolen and wrecked the other week. I was on the verge of tears
at seeing such a sight, but one thing that I thought about was that even though the front end was crushed(fenders shattered, bumper cover mangled), the paint hadnt chipped or peeled off at all!
even after a year and a car accident the paint has standed the test of time. call me what you will, but this week when I get my new LS1 front end on the car, Im going to take it back there... as I am satisfied with the job I got. You can ask 2000TA, the paintjob looks great, and I paid only $650 for it... no orange peel as other paint jobs, an amazing wet look and its been extremely durable... I took my car on a camping trip 2 months ago and I hit an ugly dip in the road and a large stone just scraped and dented the part under the door, and you cant see it unless you get on your hands and knees but my point is, no paint chipped or peeled off of that either... I was going to get that fixed, but when I put on some xenon ground effects you shouldnt be able to see it at all.

kandied91z - First, sorry about spelling your name wrong earlier. I just noticed it now, typing error. Second, did you know the person that did your car? It looks like the engine bay was done also, right? As you said, a paint job can't really be judged at all in a picture but for 2k you got a deal one way or another.
ReznorZ28 - "call me what you will", who called you what? Only names that I've seen was me calling kandied91z by kandies91z in error. I would venture to say that you are in the tiny minority if your Maaco paint lasted even a year. I've only seen a few cars & trucks painted there. Every single one has had serious problems and one even resulted in a lawsuit. I have talked to maybe a dozen or so people who at one time had Maaco do work. YOU are the first to every say anything positive about them and the work they do. A few hundred dollars for a complete paint job, that's the cost of just paint at every shop I know of. Good luck with the next one. Post what the results are when you have it done. I hope you are still as happy as you are now. As far as lasting a year, as I said that impressed me that is was Maaco. I would want the paint to literally last 15 years and still look NEW(besides rocks chips, etc...) with proper care. To each his own.
eyeoutthere - Did you get your answer? Roughly $650-30K. To be more reasonable, $650-15K. To be realistic, $650-5500. That's still one hell of a price range to get a good idea about what it will cost you. Sorry for jumpin all over your question but I thought at first that I was alone in thinking that a 5K job is somewhat reasonable for the results obtained.

yes i knew the person that painted my car so i got a hell of a deal....i paid more than 2,000 though. i also did alot of the teardown and rebuild myself which saved me a fortune.
there is nothing wrong with people who want to go to macco; in most cases it's all depending on the work a particular shop does. each macco in most cases is independently owned which means work can vary from shop to shop....however the chances of you getting a shop that does good work is hard to find.
i would think for 2500 you could get a great original color paintjob add around 1,000 to change the solid color and so forth. typically 3500 though is what i would expect that way if you go a little lower great and if for some reason you have to spend a little more you won't be to far away.
expecting a decent paintjob for 2,000 with no work out of yourself is just insane if you expect it to be nice.........but everyone has different opinions on what makes a nice paintjob. that is until you go to buy a car; then it has to be the best right!

I know a guy who painted a '34 Chevy that won best paint at the Darryl Starbird rod and custom car show last year out of nearly a thousand show quality cars from around the nation (including many magazine cars). He's going to use the same quality materials to paint my car a PPG black, plus shave the door handles and antenna, for around $2000.

if you said something like the goodguys show i wouldn't believe you for that price amount; i've never heard of that show you speak of though so who knows...not to mention car shows don't mean a whole lot nowdays with friends of friends who vote and whatnot. it's alot of ugly politics.
one thing that is overlooked is that magazine cars aren't always the best paint. sure they probably have nice paint; but just because it's in a magazine it doesn't mean that it's the best thing out there, just nice. pictures can hide alot of imperfections.
the time alone to do all that work properly is more than worth that amount if he is good. ppg is a decent paint, not the best but definately up there.......you ought to jump on that deal.
there are so many things that can be brought to the table when dealing with a paintjob; it's extremely critical that you see the persons work. if they do a satisfactory job in your eyes then you shouldn't worry. although 2,000 in supplies isn't exactly a high amount it isn't cheap either; he could be skimping out on base coats, the clear, etc. i'm sure he'll do a more than adaquate job on the car if you liked his previous work.
don't let prices mislead you either though, just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's always better. do your research before hand and you'll be alright. the best ideas are to go to car shows and look for paintjobs that meet your standards. talk to the owners and find out all the info you need. also do this with cars that you know have been painted but aren't good. you can find out who does what kind of work before hand. may save you.

I'm really glad this topic came up as I was about to post the same thing. I'm about to come into a decent amount of money, I had a temp job for this past summer break and a 1500 pound vending machine fell on my ankle and crushed it (lol not the most flattering story) and several surgeries later and lots of metal inside of it worker's comp is about to pay up. I've been looking around at 2002 SS's and one of the first things I want done is it being painted being millineum yellow, I love yellow Camaros (well sports cars in general, but especially after seeing Brent's paint job). People are telling me I'm stupid for wanting to get a close to new car painted but its what I really want, and I'm kind of worried about finding the right place at the right price because I don't necessarily want a show quality paint job, but I want something that looks at least as good as factory and will last as long. Is it at all feasible to have every part painted, as in under the hood and all the trim? From a previous post it sounds like its not quite worth it, if thats the case then I might trash the whole yellow idea because I don't want to skimp but I don't want to pay 15k for a paint job. And since I'm by no means mechanically inclined doing pretty much any of the leg work myself is out of the question.
I only have experience with one local body shop guy, someone my Dad has been going to forever and he's done decent work on my current '94 after a couple accidents I've had, but I'm not too sure about the quality of it as the paint is peeling now from the bumper which he's repainted. I wasnt even sure about how I should begin to even try and find out where I should take it, but this post has helped a lot. If there's absolutely any other ideas or suggestions anyone can give me I'm all ears. Sorry to change ths subject but I was about to post basically the same question. Thanks a bunch.

well i completely agree with those who said purchasing an 02' and doing such is a waste! but it's your money.
personally if that's your style you could save a fortune picking up an earlier version like the 98+ if that's the body style you want and going from there.
5,000 would get you a decent factory recovering in yellow around here but i would expect to do some work just because you would need to do some serious stripping. tack on around 1500 if you can't work. you might even be able to do it for cheaper than 5,000 and have it look great.........but not if you can't do some work or find someone to do it for you to save money.
understand 15,000 is for a show quality 13 layer 7 color candy job. not a 4 layer single color. huge difference in time, technique, experience, etc.
a slip up doing a custom color like candy or even some pearl colors can cause months of work. you slip up with a solid color they just lightly wetsand and repaint. solid colors are extremely easy and the reason they are so cheap.
the easiest way to explain the situation is to take three different colors of plastic wrap........try to lay them down all nice and smooth on top of one another. sounds simple right? well now do it with 13 and make it look like glass. doubt it will be to easy. you get what you pay for and in paint this is very true.

I didnt say anyone called my anything, I just said call me what you will... and I wasnt refering to you... its just every time I post that I got a good job from maaco, someone jumps in and says, "well you probably dont know a good paint job when you see one... I bet I can point out more that a dozen flaws...blaw, blaw blaw..." But thanks for not flaming me...and Im praying that they do just as good a job on my front end as they did on the whole car... Ill keep you all posted when I get it done. My 98 front clip should be coming from speed automotive sometime at the end of this week.... and on Sunday I am going to drive out and meet someone halfway to purchase their original GM SS hood... hopefully Ill have it put together by tuesday and then it goes to the paint shop... Im getting so excited!!
I hope I get it back before christmas.

ReznorZ28 - I just wanted to make sure. I didn't see any names but I have a way of pissing people off w/o even realizing it.
Steps In SC - It's your money, do what you want with it. BUT, you asked. If you're buying an 02 w/o any damage to the finish I'd wait a while. You mentioned a few accidents previously. Why not give it a while until you are sure that you know the car well enough so that hopefully there isn't another one in the near future that requires you to repaint certain parts?
"but I'm not too sure about the quality of it as the paint is peeling now from the bumper which he's repainted." Have you asked him why his paint job is peeling? It should not be that way AT ALL. If he doesn't stand behind his poor work(likely lack of prep) with just the bumper, do you really want him touching your entire NEW car? I would think talking to him about your problems will be a good way to find out if he is really any good.
Like I said, it's your $$$ but you asked so IMHO I would keep the money for other things.
