From what I've seen they do a pretty good job too.
MAACO...

I used to work there as a summer job a couple summers, prepping, I did paint door jambs and that type of thing, detailing, pinstriping, masking, sanding, mild bodywork on the real clunkers(rusting behind rear wheels and such)...it really depends on the shop you go to...we took pride in the work, and the owner always ran the car through again if you werent satisfied...(well almost always) I mean you get what you pay for and the prices are good. Just look your car over well before you sign it off. I could tell you some horror stories, yet that's with any paint shop I suppose.

I will say in my case the prep job I gave for the cars was always pretty much the same, GOOD , I did all the cars the same..GOOD...unless the car was really bad then I would definately refer to the work order so hopefully I didnt HAVE TOO...you'll get different paint services and the base service even states that youll get only part of the scratches on the pass side sanded or even left alone and not sanded... I forget the procedures per service geez it's been 20 years...yet usually the driver side got all scratches sanded, then hood and rear deck lid got a certain percentage done and so on...youll pay for more than that

just make sure you read carefully what your getting with the service you choose at Maaco, alot of times your paying for stuff you dont even need...I saw it all the time, for instance someone will pay for the so and so service that is mostly a prep upgrade with the same paint service and their car has literally no scratches on it. that type of thing...

we did it all, it is a full service shop, so if you want a hood painted and blended into the fenders or a spot in a door blended into the quarter panel to a quarter size spot on rear bumper painted and blened, they did it all, just talk to the "sales guy" ..it is a company geared towards high numbers, it was a paint production line pretty much and the more the merrier the boss was...especially during those sales...whatever you do dont take it there during a sale...it will be rushed through and POSSIBLY not done as well, they payed a lot of the prep guys on a commission basis, and well, the prep is where its at...I was paid hourly I took my time...this is important to know LOL

wow I just wrote a chapter...sorry

Re: How much will a hood lower weight?

Thanks
Better then expected had plans to paint it myself (patriot red) instead of the black, but i got a good price from a painter so now im just waiting to get it back.( maybe better to have a pro to paint it )
the black paint didnt look so bad widh hoodpins installed, the biggest disadvatage is that it sticks out to much, We try to have a "stock" look on the cars outside

You can save more weight by painting the hood white. It's the lightest color.
