how much of a pain to paint intake manifold?
how long did it take you guys, and what were the steps. I think if I do decide to take it off, I might as well port it too. Anyway, just show me some pics, how it took, and whatever else.
Thanks

Getting it off will probably be the hardest part of the job. Check out Shoebox's site www.shbox.com He has a tutorial on there that will help you in the process. Porting it would be a waste on a stock or bolt-on motor, it really isn't needed until heads/cam come into play.

Powder coating it would be th best route. You can buy a powder coating kit from harborfreighttools.com for around 60 bucks and then just bake it in your oven.

When i had my intake off one of the many times i ported the TB passages to 58mm and painted it. Once i was done porting i took the intake to car wash and degreased it and power washed every port and passage on it. I didn't want any metal going into the motor. I then brought it home and got any remaining grease and crud off with brake cleaner. After that i primered it with red paint, then painted it with several coats of High temp red paint. Then i finished it off with several coats of clear. Here is a pic to get an idea. It been over a year and it still looks good.

when we had my buddy's intake off, we had it bead blasted and cleaned up. Then we wiped it with alcohol to make it real clean, then sprayed high temp paint, several thin coats. and then polished the fins. Looks awesome. and just be careful with the tools around it, and it keeps looking good.
