How the heck do i use Bondo?
WE had a really nice day today so i decided to give our fence a touch up with paint and with all the comotion my bondo fell into the paint and all the directions are covered up so i cant see how to use it. I was gonna finally fill in the camaro letters on the tail panel but now i cant because i dont know how to use the stuff. Whats the little tube of red stuff for?
the little tube of red is the creme hardner. you should only need a little (less than a teaspoon) for the amount of bondo to cover the lettering. mix both well and apply. let dry till hardned (overnight) and rough sand/prime/fine sand/wetsand etc till perfect.
Here is a quick lesson in filling those letters, there is only one correct way. First, grind all the edges of the letters around the sides. You can't just fill the letters as the filler will sink and you will always see CAMARO, just slightly. I reccommend putting a 36 grit pad on a 2" angle die grinder, and grind away on the inside of the letters and all around the outsides a bit, maybe open it up .5" around the letters , sand around that with 80 grit, I reccommend the use of a DA for that, and then fill. Stir the body filler well, and apply to a clean board, cardboard will work, get yourself a decent size puddle, apply a strip of cream hardner across the puddle, a little less if you are slow, just one, mix throughly, very throughly, and apply in firm strokes across the letters, btw, if the panel is on the car, take it off or mask the bumper as you will drip it everywhere if you haven't used it before. Work fast, once it cures up, block sand with 36 if you put it on real thick, 80 if it isn't too much work, fill again as needed, I reccommend putty for this final filling, sand with 180, and prime. You don't have to let it cure overnight, it is a catalized product and will cure very quickly. There is more but you should find out some of it the hard way, that's how you learn right?
