HOW do you remove the gas cap?!? Help ASAP please!
Going to the PPG paint shop tomorrow and they want the gas cap for matching so they can make the mix justright for me. I can't see any way to remove this thing.....anyone know how?
....ok, wrong word on my part, gas lid .....the painted thing that lies smoothly in contour with the rear quarter panel. The PPG shop wants it because it is painted nice and even like the rest of the car....makes it easy for them to match it up.
Not driving the car anymore than I have to because I have an exhaust leak coming from the header.....if I'm lucky I can just retighten the bolts and it will be fixed. If not lucky I'll drive it more than necessary and actually blow the gasket (if it isn't already). Would check myself but I have a slipped disk in my lower back.
Need the info on how to remove the gas cap lid because tomorrow is the only day I can get away from work and obligations to go get the paint.....otherwise I'm screwed for another week or so and will have to continue to wait to get my car fixed.
OK, I'm done venting. It's just that my car's been down for five weeks already due to hitting a dog and messing up the front clip along with all of my aftermarket stuff attached.....not in the mood to wait longer and hate to take the risk of driving it way out of the way just so they can see my paint color for matching.
Ok, since I jokingly gave you a hard time, I just grabbed my flashlight and a mirror and went out to a Camaro I have half torn down with no gas filler plastic ring or even tank for that matter. Bad news... I don't see how to remove it. There are no screws. It looks like it is like spot welded or something to the quarter panel. It is hinged via a pin that goes through the lid and into the part that is mounted on the body. This pin looks to be pressed into place and can't be removed (easily).
Looks like your best bet is to remove the rear panel with the words CAMARO indented in it. This piece goes under the tail lights and between them. From what I can see, that's the easiest part to remove which has the paint of the car on it (besides maybe the mirrors).
Good luck!

That's how it appeared to me. Thanks for looking anyway. I guess I'll take my chances on driving the car down there since my "Camaro" panel is probably has the poorest quality OEM paint on the whole vehicle. Well, thanks anyway man.
Take your spoiler off. As long as it isn't the RS style, it's very easy. Snap off the inside hatch cover and undo the four bolts holding the spoiler. The inside hatch cover will snap back on as easily as it snapped off.

wound up driving the car down there anyway and the guy mixed the paint without ever looking at the car. Drove it through a huge storm all the while listening to my header gasket leak getting worse. Whoever I talked to before who insisted I bring in the gas lid wasn't there but the guy who fixed the paint up for me said it wasn't necessary since I had the paint code
....that was what I thought all along anyway, after all....it is a factory color and all of the Polo Metallic II's I've seen look the same. .....so why'd they have to put me through that?
....I don't understand people sometimes. Well, anyway.....thanks for the info on removing the lid and spoiler, I may need to for other reasons someday
Actually.. the guy that asked you to bring a color sample of your car is right...
Your car is a 95? and it would have faded by now or changed color after all the years.. the factory color will no longer match your car's "Actual" color. If the car has been garaged and i guess never under the elements then it should match..... If not.. i would be careful if you are just matching a panel or something make sure to try it somewhere discreet and total sunlight to see if there's a color tint difference.
good luck

Yeah, actually it has been a pampered car and has never even seen oxidation due to always being garaged/clean and no winter driving (not a daily driver). I guess the blending will not be so bad if even necessary.
Now my dilemma is whether or not to get an aftermarket hood. My stock hood will need to be completely repainted and the dent/crease in the front of the hood will require a few hours of massaging and shrinking to be fixed. It seems I would only be out two or three hundred more to just go ahead and get an aftermarket hood. If I do I'm thinking OEM SS hood (Mechanic can get it for me from GM at 20% discount) or the beautiful RK Sport "SS Style" hood which I think looks even better. ....or maybe the Ultra Z hood. I think the choice is narrowed down to those three....any opinions or anyone know of good prices? BTW, what model SS hood would I specify to GM to fit my 94? (97?)

Oh yeeeah, the 97 would do just fine.....for a mere $1,850.00 from SLP what a bunch of
Fuggin' forGET it.
They wound up saying my stock hood won't cost much to repair anyway.....since the SS hood costs more than a good used supercharger I think I'll pass. I've heard the aftermarket SS hoods are pure junk so not going there either.
SS is the only style I would choose now that I've looked a bit more.....well, so much for that.
PS: Wouldn't it be nice to be paid well so these things would never be an issue? ....freakin' banks

I presume you mean the door. Not sure on that one
