how do you power/light an LED

how do you power/light an LED

I have the LED's and the resistors but i need to know how to power them in my car. I want them come on with my parking lights. What wires will i need to connect to and how would i do it. I know very little about this so please help me out... Also how can i test them outside of the car with something like a battery?

You might want to look at some of the guides listed here. (bottom half of page). Maybe that'll help. There's quite a bit more stuff on that site too if you just poke around.

A while back i was working on building a 5.0 emblem for my 88' caprice, that lit up with the third brake light. I found it easiest to use 12 volt LEDs. Then wiring is a snap.
