I haven't checked out the firebirds. I did have to notch a hole in the black engine sound deadener for the air to pass through. It wasn't a big deal. But, I would check the flow. The Firebirds are down low and it should work fine.

 

there is really no point do butchering your hood to act as a heat extractor. for one thing... most cars will only get hot if they are sitting still in traffic but since you arent moving, no air will move thru the engine bay so they are worthless unless you are moving. then theres the .."what if it rains" question... answer is water will find a way in!

 

Thats very true turbo_Z, my engine gets past 220 while sitting still, even over 240 some times (and it's not even summer yet!) But when my fan kicks on, it brings it down to about 200, then when I start moving, it gets down to 160ish.

Does anyone elses engine temp change that much? I'm good for radiator fluid, and I'm not sure if this much temperature variation is normal.... it's not even summer yet! But, I am in Phoenix, so the sun is killer on the black hood.

 

I've had the car as the original owner since 1995. I ported the heat extractors in 1999. Since then, it works great. We only get about 12 days of rain in So Cal so water isn't an issue. However, I do have a spare set for "Storm Watch" when we get our 1 inch of rain.

It DOES work great at speed, it really drops down the temps.

Also, if you use Tuner Cat (Or LT1 Edit) you can adjust the temp your fans turn on. Also, I dropped to a 180*F Thermostat... not as extreme as the 160*F t-stat.

Sitting in traffic, as the fans kick on, you can see the heat waves through the extractors. They do work in traffic. The work more efficiently when the fans are on.

The test is simple, just grab a thermometer and stick it under the hood. You'll see the temp difference! No overheats anymore on the Hollywood Fwy. Just get a spare set, try it and if you like them... keep them. I haven't gone back. Also, you can switch back if it rains in Phoenix.

In other parts of the country where it rains, yes, it might be an issue. In the sunbelt states, I would recommend it.
