Hood scoops instead of new hood?
Hood scoops instead of new hood?
I have a 97 z28 and in the spring i want to do some body work/ painting. My hood is in good condition and isaw at summit they have some hood scoops. I like the ss and cowl looks. I was wondering how much trouble would getting one of those scoops and installing it on my stock hood be? Also, can i make them functional by cutting out some of my hood? (Functional as in bringing in air to cool the engine).
Do you recommend i do this or just leave my hood alone?

Re: Hood scoops instead of new hood?
It won't be alot of trouble...just a matter of 'glassin or welding it on (depends what kind you get, then a little body filler to get a perfectly smooth surface, then paint over it. Yes you can make it functional if you have a sawzall or a die grinder or a cutting tool really.
**Will it ever look good? NO, if you want your car to look good you might as well go drop $400 on a SS style hood because the mold-on scoops look like ***. Just like mold on cowl's...their fugly and if you wanna do that to your car go ahead man...but your not gonna win anything besides a domestic rice award, In my opinion.

Re: Hood scoops instead of new hood?
cutting a hole to make more air come in is a bad thing,a guy that helped produce the Camaro said they tried doing that with the two scoops on their now and it would make the radiator airflow decreasse, meaning more heat less power..get he idea..he said it was bad to have anything open on the top of the car unless it was a functional SS hood...and you gotta worry about the Opti Spark too..
