Hood Pins - How do they work?

I was thinking about buying a pin on hood over a bolt on one. Probably either the Sunoco, Original SS, or 3" SS ones. How exactly do they work? Were do you achor them too? Do you just have to pin on the front like I see on most 4 Gen's or on multiple spots? If anyone had some pics or a good explaination that would really help me. Thanks.

Im pretty sure that you attatch the pins to the front radiator support in the front and the back attatches to the hood hinges

I was thinking the same, but have never seen pics or seen them in person. How many pins are most people using? I've seen ones with just 2, then some with as many as 8-10.

Depends how flimsy the hood is. With a really thin one, you're going to need Dzus fasteners all the way down both sides.

There are many ways of doing this. On light weight hoods you can use Dzus fasteners like Injuneer said, but on heavier hoods I've also seen them with just 4 pins, two in front and two in the back. Most strip cars have removed the hood latch and hinges for weight savings. Also on light weight hoods, placement of the pins is important. To close to the edges and the center can bow up at speed. I've seen a few ripped off because the pins were in the wrong places.
Like I said, on race cars the latches and hinges are usually removed, so you unpin the hood and lift it off. Easiest done with two people. On street hoods you can use the stock hinges for the back and just pin the front. If they are there just for looks you can leave the latch on for security or get locking pins.
On my 84 I wanted the convenience of both removable hood and normal opening. So I kept the stock hinges without the struts, and fastened the hood to them with Dzus fasteners. I pinned the front and lined both sides with Dzus fasteners. So if I just need to take a quick look I can loosen the Dzus fasteners and pins, and prop the hood open with a rod. If I'm doing more I can remove the entire hood.
On older cars most used the rad. support to mount the pins, but on the 4th Gens. this may not be the most esthetic spot. Light weight brackets are easy to fabricate using "L", "I", or sheet aluminum.

Unfortunately that is not the case at all... To put it simply, if it is advertised as a "pin-on" hood it will have NO place to attach ANY factory hardware and you will have to have pins or clips (as mentioned earlier) ALL THE WAY AROUND.

Hoods with just pins on the front are the expensive bolt on hoods. Someone just added pins or added pins and removed the front latching system.

Pin on hoods will be a PITA on a daily driver that you change oil on, pop the hood at car shows, etc...
