Question Hood Insulator

A quick question I've been thinking about lately. Does the hood insulator serve any useful purpose? Mine is pretty stained so I was thinking of just taking it off. What are your thoughts.

I think it keeps the engine heat from messing up the paint.

After 98 or 99, the hoods didn't come with them though...

What would have changed?

I think its just supposed to promote quicker Engine warm up, and maybe take an edge off of noise. I took mine off towards the end of summer, and I didn't notice any i'll effects. If you think about it, you see very few cars with a hood pad of any kind...

I dunno

Mine was also looking pretty ragged so I removed it. I haven't had any problems yet, and it's been off for about 8 months.

It's there to cut down the noise, to help smother an engine fire, to protect the paint and to warm the engine on those cold winter nights.

Who knows?

I think mines going to have to come off! It looks ugly as sin, and I dont mind engine noise, and if I have an engine fire, I would rather just have the fire trash the whole car, that just mess up the engine or whatever. So yah, definetely coming off.

If you aren't sure if you want it gone or not they are actaully pretty cheap to buy new.

GMPartsDirect's price is $26.42 but it states they don't sell it due to its size. Retail list is $44.78. Part No. 10278015 if anyone needs it.
