headliner designs?
headliner designs?
i was looking to do some designs in my headliner and was wondering if anyone had any sugestions about doing. i have all the matirial, but i am having problems with the design to be very detailed.
thanks
thanks
What are you thinking of doing? Lamborghinis come with headliners that match the seat stitching. If you can design something that matches the seat pattern in your car, that could be nice.

was going to put "camaro" on the flat spot in front of the hatch. I was going to use foam to do the lettering and glue it down. and I was going to do the 30th anneversery symbol in front of the rear view mirrior. But I was going to use faom and put the headliner clot. Over the foam lettering. But I'm haveing trouble getting the part on the middle of the o in camaro to stay indinted so it looks like a o.
Best suggestion is build a test panel.
What adhesive are you using? 3M 99 works the best. I also suggest using a non-foam backed fabric (but I'm thinking you're already using something like that).
As for keeping the center in the O, it's going to be very difficult if the center is too small. One trick is to glue that one spot first and let it completely dry. Then work outwards from there with adhesive and pulling the fabric tight.

Also the o is about 2x1. And I had made a test panel. That's how I no that's it's not really working. Where would you suggest getting the 3m 99?? And would you suggest using foam at all?

The 3M 99 can be found at most auto parts stores, or your local Home Depot/Lowes.
Do not use a foam-backed fabric, as that's what's causing a lot of your issues.
Apply a thin (~1/8" thick foam; same as what's on your foam backed cloth) to the whole headliner. Then apply the foam for your letters. Let that completely dry. Then apply the fabric to that, you shouldn't have any issues if you do it this way with the fabric adhearing to the foam.
Do NOT try and spray the whole headliner with adhesive and do it in one shot. Small areas for the lettering and get that dry/tacky. You can then do larger areas in one shot where there's not the detail of the lettering.

Probably would, just be careful to let the adhesive flash off before applying it, sometimes felt can saturate through if there's too much adhesive applied and/or it's not left to flash off long enough.
By flash off I mean apply it and let it sit a minute or 2 to let the liquid chemical vapors dissipate and the adhesive to dry a little. I know the 3M 99 has a suggestion of a couple mins before gluing the 2 parts together. It's really important with a felt like material.
Try it on a dummy cardboard piece to get your technique down and play with the times before you do it to your real headliner.
