Headlight Switch Bulb replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Headlight Switch Bulb replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the bulb inside my headlight control panel burned out this past weekend. the dealer is the only place where i could find an exact replacement but they wanted around $6 for the bulb. however, i went to radio shack and got a micro lamp (PN # 272-1092) which was like $1.70 for 2. all i did was remove the small plastic holder that the old bulb was in, removed the old bulb and insert the wires from the new bulb into the hole where the wires from the old bulb were, then i just tied the remaining wire around the factory wire. the new bulb is brighter than factory, much cheaper and only takes minutes to replace. i don't know if anyone has had trouble with this bulb burning out but just thought i'd post a quick fix for anyone interested. BTW, the radio shack bulb is the same bulbs to use when replacing bulbs in the steering wheel radio controls!
Re: Headlight Switch Bulb replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are you referring to the steering wheel radio controls? i have a '96 firebird. these are the only controls i've taken apart. i've been told the newer controls are slightly different (maybe mid '98-'02 are different inside). however, there wasn't a battery inside my controls. why would a battery need to be there since everything is wired? they aren't wireless remotes. anyway, if there is a battery within your steering wheel controls....i am sure that it can be replaced. the lights inside my controls burned out and i just snapped them apart and put new bulbs inside, then replaced the orange condom onto the new bulbs.

Re: Headlight Switch Bulb replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just take the controls apart. then remove the screws within the controls (i think there are 2-3 screws per control). once you have it unscrewed then just solder the old lights out and solder in the new ones. its really not difficult. hope this helps ya.
