Headlight Bulb Question

I have been searching for a few hours and learned a few things.

I have settled on replacing the bulb in the stock housing.

I am not sure weather I want to use:

http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/HEL88830.htm

Or their 80 Watt counter parts. Some people belive that 80 Watt's will create a road hazzard and will get me pulled over alot. Is that true? I think HID lights on new cars would still be twice as bright as those 80 watt bulbs.

Do you have any opinions?

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

I carefully siliconed a Phillips HID kit into my low beams, and my fog lights, all within the factory housing. The low beams have never gotten me pulled over and they look awsome. When I drive with the fog lights on too, people high beam me all the time. I'm just waiting to be pulled over for it, but so far nothin. You should be fine if you are only doing bulbs.

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

I am not really interested in HID kits since they are way out of my price range. How do those hella bulbs i posted stack up? They seem like great bulbs. Still wondering on 80 vs 55 watt.

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

Using a HID retrofit kit (the complete kit, not just "HID-look" bulbs) in a sealed beam application will likely get you into more trouble than some 80w replacement bulbs. The glare would be bad.

I'm running 80w clear Luk bulbs and have not had any incidents with them being too bright or blinding. They are much better than the stock bulbs.

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

Try these for low beam headlights, 80w ones: http://lightingresearch.com/store/pr...products_id=59

These for high beams (100W): http://lightingresearch.com/store/pr...products_id=58

These for fogs: http://lightingresearch.com/store/pr...products_id=76

They work great, and I haven't had any trouble at all with them.

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

I recently had a low beam burn out on me and i am wanting something brighter. The HID kits are out of my league. If i read correctly it sounded like some of you managed to get the factory bulb out of the housing to replace it. How hard was this and what bulb with a white shine can i get that is a replacement. I know i wont find a "exact" replacement bulb with it being a sealed beam. But i want one that i wont have to do anything more than plug it in and seal it to get it to work. Is there anything out there like that?

Thank you but your links don't work. Which bulbs were you trying to point me towards? Thanks

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

Thank you! Those are alot cheaper will get them.

About the fog lights i have read that yellow lights are alot better for bad weather and since i will have enough illumination from the bright low beams what yellow lights would you recomend?

I know hella has a yellowstar brand but I don't think they make bulbs for 885 fog lights?

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

If you just want something that looks good for the fog's basically - then I recommend the 1LE Fog Light Deletes.

I haven't had my fog lights in for a couple of years now, so I dunno what to tell you.

You can really go wrong with any Hella though, I do know that. If yellow is what you want, I'd say those are as good as any. The Optilux line from Hella is their cheapest stuff...it's made in Indonesia FOR Hella, not in Germany BY Hella. Even still, their not bad.

Don't get "SuperTunaz Hyper Yella Mad Brite Lightz Yo!" off of eBay and you should be good.

Thank you, I just wanted an all weather yellow bulb in my fog lights since I plan on using them in bad weather only. I can't find one that fits the fogs. That is what I am looking for, I plan on using those other bulbs posted by another member for the low/high beams
