I want to buy a Firebird door panel to replace mine but it comes with a cloth insert. I have the vinyl insert and it looks like once you cut the tabs that hold the insert on, you can't reattach it.

 

You'll have to epoxy, hot gluegun, or superglue the panel back into place.

 

If you do some searching on the net someone has a how to on changing the vinyl inserts on TA door panels. I remember finding it a long time ago.

 

just be carefully when you take the tabs off that you don't break the whole tab off. I tried to redo my Z's doors last weekend and I ended up ruining my passenger side door because I couldn't get it back together....needless to say it has superglue all over it now and so does the vinyl..looks horrible. I haven't given up on it yet, but I need to find a way to get to superglue off the outside of it

I would recommend to sand the tops of the plastic tabs off that way you have plenty of it left to super glue it back to or hot glue..whatever.

You can just cut the tabs that are melted bad...then use hot glue to reattach the panel. I replaced the carpet panel on my camaro with a dark grey vinyl panel.
