Has anyone replaced just the bulb in their sealed beam light with a better one?

There are literally 10's if not 100's of posts about this in the appearance forum.

I have done the conversion for several guys, and it is pretty easy. I usually upgrade them to 80w Krypton/Xenon gas mixed bulbs and re-silicone the bulbs in.

I did find quite a few posts on this topic in the appearance forum. After looking at some of the info I decided that while the bulb upgrade makes a diference, it won't be to the extent I want. I decided instead of spending $50 on two bulbs, or $100 to do the high and low beams, I should keep the money and go for an HID system when I can afford it. I saw a figure of $400 for an HID kit for the car, which is very reasonable for the others I have seen.

Not sure if autooptiks kits are better now but the qaulity was poor when they first came out.

I converted my car to HID and I would do it to any fourth gen that I would drive daily. It is amazing how well you can see at night. It is brighter than my buddies XENON HID's on his new benz.

I opted to go with the 8000 color range. Kit was $300. Made an adapter to fit them in a sealed beam stock bulb housing. Have had no problem and have been on the car for around 6 months are i drive it daily.

Also if your fog lights burn out all the time it is worth retrofiting them to take headlight bulbs they last much longer. No need for fogs or highbeams if you have the HID setup though. The $300 kit was only for the lowbeams.

Hmmmm that's a good idea retrofitting the fog lights to take the headlight bulbs. I can't tell you how tired I am of replacing those things!

I too did the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs in the stock headlight housing. I used Epoxy on it and stock wiring harness and I love it, much brighter. Everyone should do this, it was easy.

Just swap out the stock driving lights for a set of Hella FF75 lights. They are much brighter.

DO NOT BUT AUTOOPTIKS ! !

Do a search in the appearance forum. That kit is a total scam.

I have the Hella FF75 conversion and highly recommend it. Pics in sig.

And as far as HID, don't pay more than $300 for the kit.

I put some hyper whites in mine and then swapped the lows and highs so that the low beams are on the inside.
Yes I know DOT says they have to be on the outside but I have had no problems so far.
Changing the bulbs is easy and will save you some money.

if you're adventuresome and have $200, you can go to a full projector setup. better beampattern than stock, which is what really makes the difference. i've put some upgraded bulbs in my 93 toyota, then i finially purchased hella housings. they actually put the light in a usefull place on the road. as soon as i finish the valve work on my Z, i plan on doing this mod: http://bellsouthpwp.net/m/u/mulgeary/Hella90/index.htm

Well today I was oh-so pleased to find that my passenger side low beam is out. The options are buy an entire sealed headlight for how much? Or do that Sylvannia custom fit, which from the link seems easy yet effective. Any Additional comments? I wouldnt mind some brighter headlights, since the roads around where I live are not lit. But I dont need to go overboard either. Just a good replacement that gives some more light. Seemed like the Sylvannia custom deal was a safe alternative, no?

Could you post where you got your kit. The one thing i don't know anything is about head lights. I just now how to install them. I would like a complete bolt in kit that would retain stock housings if possible. I'm not a big fan of most of the round aftermarket housings. I've thought about getting that DG motorsports fog light piece just to have decent lighting and keep the look of my stock headlights.
