Post Guaging interest in 93-97 Trans Am appearance mod

I got a new job at a machine shop today, and we got on the subject of my car (1995 Trans Am convertible). I asked him if it would be possible to replace the faux heat extractors (non-WS6 hood) with a very stiff black wire mesh. Think 1992-1997ish Dodge Vipers, the way they had those two heat extractor vents on the hood. I'm going to get him to make up some black inserts for my hood, and if there is enough interest here, I'll approach him about making a bunch of them.

I was thinking of shipping the inserts to the customer in raw metal, that way they can be finished to your individual liking. They will be paintable or you could chrome them. My plan is to have them as direct bolt on's, without any modification to the hood.

So what do you guys think?

You should'nt have to threaten people to reply LOL!! Sounds great! Haven't really looked under my hood to close at that area, but what would keep the water out of the engine?

Well it seems to me that would just funnel water right into the engine bay (unless you don't drive in the rain). Plus you would have to cut two holes in your hood. The black peices are just glued or snapped on, there are no real holes there. But it sure would look cool!

Well if you take the factory inserts off, you'll find that there are no holes in the hood. The hood inserts from the factory are purely cosmetic, and so are these. I originally wanted to make functional heat extractors, but keeping rain out and getting heat out would have made things very complicated. Obviously I wouldn't want to make an appearance mod and be responsible for the deaths of thousands of Opti's nationwide

It's sort of funny, because the inserts for the Trans Am are almost the same shape as the Viper's, just at the front of the hood.

But I'll be probobly getting them made in the next week or so, so I'll have pictures in no time.
