As far as painting the top black, I would have to say no for one reason: Black is impossible to take care of. The green was fairly easy to maintain (for me anyway), but my current black Z28 is rediculous. I think the car looks great with or without the black top, but I believe you'd have a harder time keeping it clean and scratch free with the black top.
Thanks for the opinion on the black top. The longer I have the car the more I like it green but I was really considering it at one time. The mirrors on the other hand. I do really like them black and do not regret painting them. Now if I could just get my polished ZR1 wheels I will be happy for a bit. I hate these salad shooters.
