I just read this awesome news. I REALLY want one of these on our Camaros so we can quit scraping on everything.

Air dams, which are important to reducing aerodynamic drag at highway speeds are frequently damaged by low-speed impacts with parking bumpers, ramps and snow and ice. The "active" air dam, activated by shape memory alloy, can monitor vehicle speed, the use of 4-wheel drive and the presence of snow to intuitively lower or raise the dam to optimize aero drag.
Only you Brangeta, you find the craziest sh!* around. Honestly, where do you find this stuff- all of the crazy camaro pics and nifty gadgets. It's awesome and I always find your threads entertaining and I definetly know what you mean about the airdam. I've been riding around with wingswest gfx for awhile and they have an even taller one that you have to install in order to get sufficient air. I rub on everything, it sucks.
Thanks custom95. I just do a short 5 minute daily search on ebay for Camaros, and I read GM's media website when I get a few free minutes. Glad to know that it's appreciated!
I really think this speed-adjustable airdam idea is really cool. I don't quite understand the first sentence about "reducing aerodynamic drag at highway speeds," but I like the idea of it being retractable for parking and when going at a low speed.
My Z28, particularly, scrapes when I go through a gentle dip as well as over a speed bump. It's not an incredible issue, but if I lowered the car an inch and didn't upgrade to 17 inch wheels, it'd be a huge problem. I REALLY hate scraping it on a curb when parking as well. I don't know how expensive of an application this would be, but I think it's a nice innovation.
This is slightly off-topic, but Lamborghini tried to solve the problem we have with scraping on their Murcielago. Since I obviously don't know anyone who owns one, I don't know how effective it is, but their method is kind of cool. There is a switch inside the car that will raise the front end an additional 2 inches for going over speed bumps, train tracks, going up driveways, etc. I'm not sure how it is done, but I don't believe it uses airbags to do it. I think it uses gas filled shocks?
Either way, I sometimes wish I had that feature on both our Camaros. The exhaust pipe on the SS tends to grab speedbumps, so it would need it in the back.
