Now that my friend is a damn good idea!! (although for now I may cut mine shorter too). Can you do your own body work/painting though?? Otherwise, what would it cost to have someone experienced/knowledgable cover-up and paint over that hole?? I too find it fugly as hell. That's one thing I like about the 2nd-gen cars.........antenna's in the windshield!!

I found it easier to shave the whole thing, and put a window mount on. Now I don't have to look at any "Sore Thumb" Item.

LOL..I guess so!

But, it still looks better than the stock length antenna with a Jackball .

Even though the 'regular' ones might be cheesey, down here they have Astros Jacks with an Astros batting helmet and gum bubble in their mouth. This is not cheesey!

mine is equal in heigth roughly to my roof now....it got snapped off at school one day, and i repaired it using the two pieces anyway, i got behind one with a full length antenna the other day and it looked goofey i love the way it looks cut down, but the reception sucks, which doesn't really bother me since i listen to cd's 99% of the time

Not bad, but nothing beats the look of the power antennas

Did that a couple months ago and I get good reception still when I listen to the radio (about once a year). Mine's about a foot tall and I sanded it down to bare metal. No rusting yet and it's been a month.

Brent is correct on this. Antenna length is usually determined by the wavelength of the signal it is receiving/transmitting. A full wave length antenna can be very big for the lower frequencies so that is where designers will go with half wave length or quarter wave length antennas. Cell phones use higher frequencies so they use short antennas while Bo and Luke Duke need longer antennas for their CBs. I can't remember the formula for figuring wavelength out of certain freqs but if you really want to know I can get it. You can however have a short antenna with a coil at the base of it. This will make the antenna"electrically" longer and help reception. If you live in the middle of know where and cut your antenna, your reception will get worse but if you live close to transmitted radio signal, you may not notice a difference.

I just went to radio shack and bought an antenna that was short and rubber I guess. It is also thicker so it looks a lot better and only cost like $20.
