Flexible primer needed for painting gfx?
Flexible primer needed for painting gfx?
Tomorrow I plan on painting my gfx. When I asked the local paint shop what primer I should use on them, he just gave me a can of bulldog adhesion promoter. On the can it says that it is used to make paint stick to gfx but from what I have read online, most people will still use a primer after this.
The only other kind of primer I have is a duplicolor sandable primer. Would this be ok to use or would it need to be flexible?

Re: Flexible primer needed for painting gfx?
just use normal primer dont waste your time or money on other stuff iv done ground effects and NEVER have a problem with them cracking paint will flex ALOT more than people think it will the knowlege i know comes from my ole man who builds custom cars for a living and a few have gone on barret jackson just dont want you to think im some red neck with rattle can good luck painting
Re: Flexible primer needed for painting gfx?
id agree.. normal paint will work.. most flex additives are only there to allow the paint to stay soft enough to install the part.. then it evaporates.. as far as flexible primer.. no matter how far the primer will flex, the paint will only flex so much.. i would just use the real urathane primer.. if it is raw rubber or smc.. you can use bumper cladding then paint.. if its already black and kinda rough then use some red scotch bright and 400.. then use sealer and paint.. youll be all good..

Don't listen to them, use the bulldog-you should use regular polyprimer and then ADD bulldog in liquid form to your primer (as in not the canned kind), you can also use it in the paint-it helps adhesion and it helps give it flex properties, and trust me, you want those on gfx.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up buying a flexible urethane primer a couple days ago. Unfortunately he gave me white primer and I'm using black paint. I don't know if it'd take a lot more paint to cover up the white primer, but I think i'll return it and get something a little darker.
