Firestone Firehawks?

What kind of tires do you have on your camaro?

Ive got a z28 camaro, and currently I have goodyear eagles on them. A few months ago I got a 5 inch nail in the right rear tired, and the tire is wearing and I'll soon need new tires.

My boyfriend has firehawks on his camaro...Does anyone suggest these?

What do you have?

I've got the Firehawk SZ50's on mine. If you can afford them, I'd say go for it. I love these tires. They've got a nice, aggressive tread and do well in wet and dry conditions. If you push your car at all around the turns, these tires will stay quiet until they let go. For a street tire, you can't go wrong with these.

I have Firehawk SZ50s on mine and if I had the money, I'd get them again.

Did I read this right $88 for each SZ50 firehawk tire??

I thought they were really expensive like $250 per tire??

When I had the nail taken out of my right rear tire, the dealership said they could get me two new tires for $226 each, and they were not firehawks, they were some generic brand or something.

If I am not reading that right, what would it approximately cost for me to get a 4 firehawk SZ50's?

*While at this website Im reading a lot about the SZ50 EP RFT tires also....Anyone experience them???

I live in Central Illinois, and we usually get a a few rains not but a lot, and they're never down pours/small flood but only very few in the summer.

Winters, this winter so far, we had two days of being snowed in..I drove in the snow 10-15 mph...there was 5 inches of snow, but the road had more like 3 inches. I slid around also as were many other cars, I only took the car out to see how it did in the snow.

Other than that we usually have okay roads. My tires right now, are wearing and spin when its slightly wet out, and spin on
turns..when its wet out or not wet sometimes.

I currently have Goodyear RS-A (all season tires)....They were on the car when I bought it, and it's a 2001 z28 camaro, with approximately 18,000 miles on it. It was previously owned.

*Do you think the SZ50's will be a good choice ? Or should i look into these SZ50 EP RFT, or another tire?

*Maybe look into Firestone All season tires?

Sorry for so many questions

Just what vehicle are you going to put these tires on? What size rims do you have?

The tire you linked to, and one of the few sizes still made in the SZ50 line (it was replaced by the SZ50 EP several years ago, they still have to keep making the old tire design in the sizes used as original equipment, for 7 years) is far too narrow for a Z28. You want a minimum of a 245 section width tire on that car.

Stock wheels on a Z28 are 16x8". These tires fit on a wheel no wider than 17x7.5". Do you have 17" wheels?

Yes, they are very low priced, but you are essentially getting an outdated model tire at "clearance" prices..... not a bad deal, but you shoudln't put the incorrect tire size on the car to save $$$$$.

JMHO

I just checked and they're having a special on the Firehawks, but they ain't $88 a tire for our cars. You were looking at the 215/50/17's. The 275/40/17's are going for about $180 a piece. The road hazard/insurance for all four tires comes to about $85 plus shipping.

I bought 4 245/50zr16 sz50's from tirerack about 2weeks ago and they were right at $500 shipped.
It also only took about 3 days for them to get to me!

Scroll down, it's 5th or 6th on the list $116 a piece.

The Firehawk SZ50's were stock equipment on all LT1 SS and WS-6 cars, as well as the Firehawks.

They are a really nice tire, and get decent traction. I'm now running Nitto 555's, DR's in the rear, and Extreme's up front, all 275/40ZR17. But I don't drive mine in the winter time either...

If you have the 'stock' wheels on your Z28, they are 16x8".... 16" diameter and 8" wide. The only rational tire size choices are 245/50-16 or 255/50-16. Your car may have actually come with 235/55-16 "all weather" tires, but most people opt to move up to the 245/50 or 255/50 size. Given my perception of your needs, I would recommend you choose the 245/50-16.

Next, you have to decide what conditions you drive under. You will get the best straight line and cornering wet and dry traction with a "max performancse summer tire". But those tires will not be any good at all in snow. If you drive your Z in the snow, you need to consider "all weather" tires. Same size... just "all weather".

Look over the selections on Tire Rack linked in the post above. You can see that a 245/50-16 high performance tire can cost you anywhere from $80 - $260 each. In general, you get what you pay for, but if sustained operation at 155MPH is not your normal driving mode, you will probably be happy with the lower cost tires. I have had good luck with the BF Goodrich KDW.... good all round wet and dry handling and traction. No good in snow. For an "all weather" tire, look at the BFG KDWS. For minimum cost, look at Kumho or Sumitomo. There is a bunch of data available on Tire Rack for each tire.... including a survey of things like wet and dry traction performance, tread wear, road noise, ride comfort, etc. You pick the factors that are improtant to you, and pick the tire that gets decent grades in each of those factors, and that you can afford.

Heres what is all on my tire....

TPC Spec 1137MS

Injuneer mine are M=S P245/50ZR16

Goodyear RS-A

1275539.GCW.74M7MNVS
e13025226

Mount only on 16 inch rim for radial tires.

Max L04D 715
kg (1576 lbs)
300 kpa
(44 psi)
Max press

As far as driving style that I have been looking at on tire rack, I have a tendency to take off fast and turn corners fast. If that makes any difference in a tire choice..
