Turned out very nice. I used 2 15" neons for mine. For those of you that plan on doing this, I would recommend using an EL (electroluminescent) sheet instead of the neon. This is what I plan on doing once I get a z28. The reason for this is that there is hardly any room for the neons behind the panel. They do fit, but it takes some work. Another reason is that there is a big metal bump that connects the trunk lock so you can get your key in there. Because of this, it is a little unevenly lit. The neon works, but this would be much easier to do and probably turn out even nicer.

Thanks for the great idea... I never gave EL a thought.
Now... I have to find a place to get some without having to buy it in quantity. I only need a piece that is 3" x 20" to do the job. Most places I have seen want you to buy a minimum quantity of like 10' at around $48 per foot(outdoor grade).

Not a chance!!!

Great idea...the only F-body I have seen like that was a Formula Firebird. He didn't do as good of a job as you did on yours, but I still thought it was a cool idea. anyway we can convience you to put it on the car earlier and take pics

I have to get the lighting situation figured out before I do anything.

Right now the car is at the garage for inspection. It is also getting the LS1 brake upgrade on the front with drilled/slotted rotors... I also got the LT1 drilled/slotted rotors for the rear. It is also getting 4.11's in the 12 bolt... 3.73's just weren't fun anymore.

Once I have the car back and get the lighting situation figured out, maybe it will go on.

I had a temporary setup to see how it would look lit up, but that was before I got the panel painted and before I had a digital camera to take pics. Plus it wasn't actually on the car so there were no tail light lit up on either side of the panel to get a good pic anyway.

We'll see what happens... I will keep you posted if things change.

Here is a site that sells EL sheets. I don't have any idea what the prices are, but you can get it as a 16" x 11" piece. I know this isn't long enought but since you have the tail light section in there, i doubt you'd be able to tell where one piece started and another began if you just cut that one piece to the right size. You may also be able to get them to sell you a piece at the size you need.

SplitFire... thanks for the info.

I just got off the phone with Ed at BeingSeen.com.
I ordered an EL Flatlite kit that is 3" x 19" in white.
Not a bad deal... $92 for the Flatlite and the inverter.

Looks great! Long ago I started to practice on a spare panel I had. It's always been one of the projects I wanted to do, but could never find the time. Nice work!!!

I don't know if those of you who wanted him to put his together so you could see what it looked like on want a picture of his in particular, but here's a picture of mine. It's a lot brighter at night time, but this will give you an idea. You can also see the dim spot between the "M" and "A". That's why i suggested the EL.
