ebay find of the week: One of my Dream Camaros, and one of... my nightmares
I think I'd rather lose the hood than just loosen it. If you only loosen it, it could come off and smash the windshield in.
It has T-tops. Not all T-top cars had their halo painted black. In fact, I highly prefer the body-color halo versus it being painted black. All 30th anniversary edition Camaros with T-tops had the white halo with the orange stripes.
Real SS with 19,000 miles. How can you lose?
It looks like they put SS on the front bumper. The bowtie was just a decal I think anyway. I haven't looked at it lately underneath the license plate bracket, but I'm pretty sure it's just a thick decal that comes off.
Check the RPO codes somewhere like camarosource.ca and see if it has any rare hidden options.
What year purple Z28 do you have?

Thanks, I will check it out!! I do not have a purple z...yet... It is just my dream car. My boyfriend owns a 97 30th anniversary z. I am actually looking at a 1996 dark purple metalic convertable z28 as well as the teal ss. The purple ones are hard to find. If you do find them they ussually have high miles and lots of damage. So, if you know of any out there for sale, let me know!!
You'll have to get the VIN and contact SLP to be 100% sure. The bowtie is removable. Some didn't even get them put on because (if I remember correctly) they were sent from the factory with the license plate bracket installed on them. If the dealers installed the bracket, the bowtie was usually under it.

I find Dark Purple Metallic ones all the time, because I'm always looking for Bright Purple Metallic ones. I know of a Z28 with only 12,000 miles, but it has some hand painted pinstriping on it and a spoiler I do not particularly like. They have been trying to sell it for months. I bet you could haggle on the price, by approximately $3500.

This V6 one has 72,000 miles on it, but the price is very very cheap if you don't care about having a V8:

There's also a '95 Z28 with graphite leather on autotrader with 90K+ miles and a rebuilt engine. I was skeptical that it was perhaps repainted, at least the roof. It looks good however.

Here's one.
Here's another.
I guess you'll just have to be patient like I am being. I'm hoping to find a '97 in Bright Purple Metallic with fewer than 20 or 30 thousand miles on it. I don't mind waiting though, because I don't have the money to get one at the moment AND keep my GXP.
On the bright side, Dark Purple isn't nearly as rare as Bright Purple, so you'll probably find one for sale in the next year or so with fewer than 30k miles.

I think if purplezgirl likes the ground effects and spoiler, then that's what she should do, and go ahead and buy that car. If she doesn't like the spoiler or ground effects, she should just wait if she's looking for a perfect show quality one.
There's no way in hell I would personally buy a car and then change the spoiler and remove the ground effects, because the new paint on the replacement spoiler isn't likely to match the old paint at all. Metallic paint lays a certain way when you spray it, and the replacement spoiler would stick out like a sore thumb. I know this... because the paint work that had to be done on my sister's Z28 sticks out like a sore thumb if the car is really clean and you look for it.
It depends how picky you are. I'm very picky, and if I was going to spend the extra money to get a low mileage one so it's a perfect show car... then I wouldn't accept adding a stock spoiler that will only match 95%. Sure, you can blend it in, but it never truly matches.
If you don't care about future value (doubt there will be any for 40 more years, but...) get a black one (they are plentiful) and have it completely repainted except for the engine bay. The engine bay looks just fine in black. That's how Berger made their cars and GMMG as well.

Me, personally, I don't like how Dark Purple Metallic can look metallic maroon in certain light.

If purplezgirl went the repaint route, then she should ask the painter if they can mix something in the paint so it only looks purple, because it's gorgeous when in light when it looks like the below pic.

This is one of my faves too:

Gorgeous.

That convertible looks awesome! Graphite leather and it even has the extremely rare 1996-only chrome salad shooter wheels!
The price is wayyyyy too high however. In this economy, it is worth $8,000 MAX. Most people would not pay that much for it. I would offer $6000, but I bet it would be rejected.
If you can get it, you probably should. Graphite leather in a purple Z28 convertible with automatic transmission is surely not common. As an added bonus, you'd get the very rare factory chrome wheels. You sound like the type of person (similar to me) who is looking for one that is still factory original/stock. This one appears to be, although I can't see the entire engine. It's missing a non-essential plastic clip that goes on the air intake. I have the part number if you end up buying the car--I recently replaced the clip myself. It was less than $4.
If you get it, I'm going to want pics for my site.
The person who put it on ebay took terrible pictures. The nose or rear end is cut off in every pic!
