Downside to changing colour?

I'll be getting my car repainted in the spring... and I've got it narrowed down to two colours.

1) Repaint it black - it's safe and I know I'll like it

2) Electron Blue Metallic (I believe thats what it's called) - It's unique, but doesn't have the high shine charateristics of black, but still nice.

I'm really stuck between the two.. I love them both. So I'm looking for any deciding factor that maybe someone can tell me about. Like does it cost more to change colour rather than repaint it the same?

Thanks

Aside from the fact that black F-Bodies are the meanest and nicest looking () there isn't too much of a downside when changing from black.

As long as you get the foor jambs painted its not a big deal. Under your hood will be black - whereas if you were changing from red or any other color - then you would have to paint under the hood as well to make it look ok.

Black is popular though - whereas EBM isn't as prominent.

hmmm... looks like I'm going to be leaning towards the EBM as my next colour...

lazy American's... spell it right!

I'm glad I started with a black car.. don't have to paint under the hood cuz it will look good IMO and the door jambs will be painted.

As far as cost goes... would EBM be more costly? To a large extent of course.. 2-300 bucks isn't big..

I'm just worried about things like.. how will by black with red outline emblems fit it? Looks awesome being black on black... Anyone have pics of their SS emblems on an EBM Camaro? Thanks

Black does make the color changes easier. I changed my black 96SS to Millennium Yellow and did exactly what you are talking about... painted all the jams but left the engine compartment.

You are in luck as well with the badges. The SS badges came in two colors... black with a red outline and black with a silver outline. I think (unless you are going to do a NBM and red color scheme) you would be better off with the black with silver outlined SS badges.

Thanks for the pics Brent.. I saw them earlier and thats how I knew I'd be fine leaving under my hood black

As far as the colour scheme... if I do go with EBM.. I will have a blue on black/red. What I mean is. My body will be blue (obviously) but my headlights and front bumper will be black. And on the front bumper I'll have the red bowtie. So I think my badges left black/red wouldn't look too bad actualy.

If it's ok with you Brent.. may I ask around how much that paint job cost you? Looks like a lot of work tearing everything apart like that.. thanks

That paint job was $5,000. However, much of that was due to the tint based yellow paint that was used. A different color would be cheaper. there is around $2,300 or so in JUST the yellow paint not including clear and that is the painters cost too! I suspect there would be way under $1000 in ALL material if using NBM.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions. Also, the badges are relatively cheap ($90 a set) so if you decide you do or don't like one or the other it isn't the end of the world to switch them out for the other style

Good choice. I would have to say teal is the worst color.

HEY now, watch all that red bashing over there

If I could afford a repaint, I think I would pick Yellow...but theres an LS1 ram air T/A that drives by me every day in dark blue (could be NBM?) that looks awesome, I think I would pick that color over black.
