door panels

i got a new set of firebird door panels for my camaro, doing a conversion obviously, and i am going to reupholster them. the only problem i am running into is the way the door panels are put together. the different parts are put together with melted tabs, and to take the door panels apart, you have to cut the ends off. the trouble after that is there is nothing to hold them together afterwards when you want to put them back together. i am wondering how some of you here have handled this situation. thanks for any help you can lend.

Just make sure you cut it so as to where there is still a slight 'tab' to go through the hole.

so when you leave a little bit left over, you just melt that back down again or did you put something else there to hold it in place
