do-it-yourself window tint for tailights..?

im bored and want to tint my tailights today. I called pep boys, autozone, and kragens, none of them carry VHT Nite shades, so im thinking of getting that window tint stuff from kmart or something. My car is black, so I would want the tint to kinda be the same darkness as the car, but still let light throuhg good. What % tint amd i looking for?

You are gonna tint the inside of the lights right? That would look a lot better. I would say like 35% would be good, and darker might make it too dark.

yea, im aware of taillight blackouts, but i hear they dont let enough light through, plus theres the fear of someone stealing them or them falling off or something. But if they are only 32 bucks, eh, what the hell
