DIY Window Tinting
DIY Window Tinting
Hey guys, I am going to try and tint my side windows. I already have the rear hatch tinted. I wouldn't try that anyways lol. But are there any tips I should know about? Can you double up tint? Like 2 20%'s to make 10%?
Re: DIY Window Tinting
I tried to do this a couple years ago, but never could get it to look quit right. The hardest part is just getting the bubbles out. Then ofcourse you have to cut the stuff perfectly to get it fit.....I would advise you to pull the door panels off and tint the whole window, other wise if you make a mistake and cut it to short then you will have a little section at the bottom that isn't tinted. Also, a credit card works the best to get the air bubbles out. Make sure you spray a lot of soap in there so you can get it just how you like it, if you don't spray enough then it will setup before you can position it just right.
Just take your time and it will look good.

You might as well try it, maybe youll get lucky and it not come out to bad. Ive done a few windows myself, and the more you do it, the easier it gets. Ive done a pair of side windows in my tacoma, by my self and they turned about better than any i had help with. But i would pull the door panel off since its so easy to do, and will give you that much more access and you wont come up a half inch short when you roll the window up. Also, it usually doesnt hurt to have another person standing around to give you a third hand. F body side windows shouldnt be all the difficult since almost all of the sides are exposed. just my opinion.

The best homemade "soap" solution....
1 spray bottle ...old Windex or 409 bottle works great
1 bottle of dish soap
1 bottle of isopropyl rubbing alcohol
drop 2 drops of dish soap in empty spray bottle, add 1/3 cup of isopropyl running alcohol, fill with water. Keep filling the bottle until you see liquid come out, not just suds.
To tint yourself...
Remove door panel, take a piece of tint larger than the window, spray back of tint and window thoroughly, squeegee tint down to window starting at the top and working your way down past where it would be visible if the door panel was on (starting at the top helps big time...think gravity) once all the liquid is gone wait about 10-15 minutes take a razor and trim off excess tint.
