darn it i need a tach, help me pick

here's the deal. on my tach when it is really at 5500, my tach reads 6700 give or take, so i figure an aftermarket tach will benefit me greatly.
i was thniking of this one
http://www.optauto.com/index.htm?stocknumber=AM-233905
but i have no clue where i would put it as it is rather large. i would really like it to go to the left side of me when i am sitting in my seat, but i don't know if it would fit. my car does nto ahve that much done to it, but i think its fast enough to shut people up to say its necassary and def. not rice, and my engine rebuild this summer will definitely warrant it.could anyone help me, maybe you have this one?
does it match the stock gauges color wise as well? would it fit on the left side or do i need to put it in the center?

You might want to look into why the stock tach is so far off..... I've heard of them "reading high", but your situation is off the curve.

If you decide you want to go with the AutoMeter 5", do you want to drill holes in the dash? That's going to govern where you mount it. I have the same tach, and mounted it on the vent panel in the center of the dash, so I didn't have to drill any visible holes. The bolts go through the vent slots and down in to the hard parts of the dash.

I don't think I would have even considered using a tach like that on a street car.... mines pretty much "track only", and the redline is over 7,000rpm, so the stocker is sort of useless.

i talked to the last owner of my car, why the stock tach is so off, i am not sure, but it was liek that we he had it as well. i do not mind drilling holes in the dash, not too sound like an idiot but the resale of a 04 z28 with 130k miles and mods is close to 2.5k or 3k, which isn't enough for me to justify things not being chopped up. i was rebuildin this summer as well with something that would spin around 6700 or so, nothing crazy, just a reliable stroker motor with maybe 400whp or so, and the stock tach goes to 7. i don't mind it being there, i think you did an awesome job putting yours were it is set up, i am pretty good at making things look liek they don't stick out and making things look liek they belong somehwere
but overall, does it work well? do you find it is decently accurate for yourself?

Its a good tach for the track. When you launch with a a big shot of nitrous off the line, 1st gear comes up awful fast. I only watch the shift light in 1st, and have the shift light rpm set low enough that when the light comes on and I bang the shifter, it goes into 2nd before the nitrous cuts off at 7,000rpm. After that, I have time to watch the needle to shift, since the light is coming on at too low an rpm. Seems to be very accurate. A have a full time data logger in the MoTeC engine management computer, so I can replay the entire pass. The rpm in the data log appears to match the AutoMeter tach very well.

wow, impressive. too be able to match rpm very closely is good like that, i kind of need that considering how far off it is right now

thank you very much for your help. i think i'll order it, and get creative when i get it as to how to mount it
