Custom side skirts with molded side exhaust exits

A good friend of mine told me he's interested in making some side skirts for my TA that would have side exhaust exits molded in.

I need some opinions before I proceed now.

Should I have exits on both sides of the car, or just the passenger side (Making exhaust fabrication much easier)?

Should I leave the gfx pretty much as they are, or should I get some more "shapeliness" molded in?

I have so many ideas, I need some outside opinion to go on. Thanks!

i think it would be best to have one side exit exhaust, and to keep the gfx fairly simple. i bet it will be awesome, good luck.

if you had one on each side with headers you wouldnt need a Y pipe... to me that would look better to have one on each side

I'll be chopping up a wings west kit to do this shortly. I am running an X pipe to two 3inch chambered mufflers that I am going to try and tuck into the tranny tunnel as much as possible. Even so, there is going to be ground clearance issues. I would mold both sides, would it be worth doing it otherwise?

I think the main concern will be shielding the urethane from the heat, and I would definately do both sides.

Here is a concept I did a while back:

We hashed it out last night, pricing everything out. I won't be doing it until I do headers, so we're looking at next year sometime for them to be functional. I may have the side skirts fabbed up this summer, but I won't guarantee anything.

But believe you me, I will post pics as soon as they're done

Edit: These will be custom pieces, made from hand laid fiberglass. Not hacked up stock pieces.

I think doing it on both sides with either 'Cuda tips or tips similar to these 70-72 vette tips would look extremely good.

Sorry to bring up an old post but has anyone done this yet? I have been contemplating doing this mod to my formula w/w68 ground effects. I was thinking, could you cut a tunnel into the floorboard under the seats and weld in some sheetmetal then go through the rocker panel and then run the tips out the sides of the ground effects. Or anyone know a better way. if anyone could photoshop this for me I would appreciate it.

This was just posted last week - so I doubt anyone has had time to do this yet, as it would take much time to do something like this.

The way you mentioned is my plans - I would think it could be done, it's just gonna take some fab work, and time, and patience, and skill. Good luck.

When I get mine finished, from the cardboard mockup it looks like there is no way to do this without losing some ground clearance, and would be very difficult to have the exhaust exit through the center of the GFX like a mustang. Unless of course you want to cut, hammer or weld some rocker panel. I am going to fab up a nicely shaped exhaust tip and cut the gfx to match and hopefully make it as flush with the bottom as possible. I'll post a pic.

Wont the exhaust exiting out the sides cause discoloration with the paint. I know you would need to have the tip angled so it will kinda flow with the air going around the sides of the car but with the car sitting still will the exhaust gases sause problems to the paint.I havent really gotten close up to a mustang to see how theres is setup. Normally the only part I see is the front end in the rear view, just for a short while I am almost ready for paint and was thinking of doing this mod and I know I can pull it off and look good but dont want to ruin the new SOM paint.

We're expecting the make the side skirts about 1" lower, and the tips will be oval shaped. They'll clean through the center like a Mustang no problemo.
