The question has been answered in this thread and in other threads about once per month. Any tinted bulb filters out light, making it APPEAR brighter. Silverstars are DOT legal by staying at a low wattage, and just barely tinting the bulb. So you are getting a slightly whiter light, and reduced illumination, while APPEARING brighter.

The difference in the bulbs I listed is that the wattage makes up for the tint, increasing the illumination AND creating a HID look.

Basically you have to ask yourself ? Do you JUST WANT BRIGHTER LIGHT ? If so, avoid silverstars, and get some 100W bulbs for around $10 or less.

Do you want a HID look ? Again... if so, avoid silverstars, and get some 100w 5000k bulbs, or any of the bulbs I listed.

A simple search would have told you this.

You don't have to be an *** about it. You are the one that mentioned the fact that the silverstars are junk. I simply asked why. I know how to search but why search when you could have politely told me why since YOU brought it up.

I'm happy with the silverstars. If they go out I may try something different but until then I'll continue to use them.

I agree with Paul on this. I had Silverstars for a couple months and then took them out. They *look* a lot better than stock...in that the color was cleaner looking. As far as light output, I saw almost no gain. I'd almost say it was worse than stock.

I now have 80w FX bulbs...much better than Silverstars. It might be different for other cars, but for the 93-97 housings, they suck.

I've had Silverstars in my third gen for about a year now. No problems.

Re: "Cool blue" headlights = rice?

I have so many different bulbs...Nokya, FX, Silvercraps, stock, GE Xenon, etc...you name it...I've got it.

This weekend, I'll try to take pics and post the amount of light each bulb puts out. I have some pics on my cardomain site of them from the front which simply shows color differences but I'll try to do one with output differences.

I'll simply say, Silverstars don't aren't any higher wattage than stock. They do have a slight purplish tint to them...so all they do is filter some of the yellow light. From my experience, they looked "pretty" and made the area it lit up less yellow but they didn't improve visibility. As pricey as they are, there are better options.

At the time, I thought Silverstars were good too. Until I tried other bulbs...

Re: "Cool blue" headlights = rice?

I've tried a lot of bulbs myself a bunch of no name ones at the beginning which included rainbow with white and rainbow with yellow and most of them the signal strength is brighter, but when you look at the illumination on the ground it's like a soft flourescent light. I didn't like them at all since it made it harder to drive at night. I then moved up to Autooptiks and those bulbs sucked, too hot or something and it was pretty blue and started bubbling out, I didn't notice until it got a little dimmer. I tried Toucan, and those were running pretty hot and of course wasn't as easy to see at night as stock. I've tried Nokya's Artic White and I kinda like those as they were pretty close to creating an HID look that I wanted, they were similar in brightness to stock, but just has a slight soft glow, not as bad as the cheap ones and illumination was almost stock, maybe just a tad dimmer. Now I got the Silverstars, for a over a month now and it is definitely whiter and the ground looks brighter than stock, I compared it b4 and after with my GF and she confirmed it as well. As I recall it has 200 or something additional lumens when compared to stock. I don't see what the problem is

All I can say is try it for yourself. If you like it like I do, then you will use it. My other choice that I like is Nokya. $24.95 for a pair just 7 miles from me
most places sell it for like 32 bucks. I would try Nokya first if I were u, since it is cheaper and is MORE noticeble of a change because of the bluish tint. They have yellow now too! Great for the wet season, or to match with yellow fogs. Now that's Different! Everyone trying to get as far from yellow look as possible while you go right into it!

Just to add to this. If you do run the Nokya's, get the TRUE 100w ones. Even if you have to run 9005's in the 9006 housings.

I don't know what brand my low beams are, the previous owner had replaced the stock ones, they give off a nice white light. I have the APC blue high beam bulbs that are a higher wattage than stock and I am very happy, they are much brighter, a cool blue HID color and no problems after a year and a half.
