Clear coat over vinyl?

Can you spray a clear coat over something that you've put the vinyl on without harming the vinyl? Kind of 'locking' it in?

When I do my brake calipers soon, I got some vinyl CAMARO lettering from Brent, and if it helps to protect them, I may throw some clear over them.

I did mine like that, alot of people do. I've yet to hear someone with a problem doing that.

I did that to mine, but for some reason mine are falling to ****

I cleaned the calipers really well, 2 or 3 layers of color, lettering, 2 layers of clear.

Now it seems like the paint is like melting off almost. It doesn't get clean, the paint will start to come off if i rub hard, and even the letters will start to come off. I figure it might have something to do with not priming it before paint maybe?? It's high temp paint and clear, the engine block stuff. Dissapointing

Paint is "melting off" the entire caliper or just around the decals? What kind of clear did you use? Also, what did you clean the calipers with. It could be that your "cleaning solution" isn't compatible with paint and is messing up the paint.

Maybe melting off isn't the best way to put it. It's like it comes off as if it is partially dry. I used Duplicolor Engine enamel (500 degree) on top of Duplicolor 1500 degree red. It is happening all over the caliper, not just the letters. I cleaned them for days with brake parts cleaner, not sure which brand.

Not flaking off but like you can rub it off with a rag??? Bad batch of paint maybe? Sounds like paint with no hardner
