cleaning up 3rd gen tail lights?
cleaning up 3rd gen tail lights?
Well, I some how managed to brake one of my tail lights taking it off (don't ask...) so now I'm on the hunt for one at a salvage yard.
I know that what ever tailight I pick up will not be in the best of shape, and my original one that is still good on my car doesn't look great either. The black "slots" are all greyish, and the red/yellow/white lenses are all just dull and "old" looking.
Is there anyway to make these old tail lights look good? Wax would probably help the lenses, but would make the black plastic part even worse (riight?). I thought about putting some ArmorAll on the black parts, but that will probably just shine them up for a week or so.
Any ideas? Would it just be better to purchase 2 new ones?
Thanks bunches!!

I really like the way blackouts look on the 3rd gens. And not just tail light blackouts...but the one solid piece that goes over the entire back section...of course...that's on a black car. It might look kinda goofy on a different color. At least with black-outs...you wouldn't have to worry about what the actual taillight piece looked like underneath there.

Try a claybar on the lense part to get the "dull" look out. Then mask off the clear parts leaving only the grid exposed and rattle can it with some gloss black.
The masking is the most tedious part of the job. Might wanna use light pressure with an exacto knife.

caspergotaz28: Hey! I never thought about using a clay bar! I'll give that a shot! And I'll have some fun with the masking tape when I get the chance
I'm not a big fan of the "black out" look on camaros, but thanks for the suggestion
Thanks alot!

yeah...I'm not really a huge blackout fan either...but I just got done watching a Knight Rider Marathon yesterday...KITT has blackouts. I know that car is a TA, and they have different light sections than a Camaro...but I still think that car looks sweet. KITT was a BAD mo fo.
