Cleaning the engine bay in a hurry??

Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to clean up the appearance of my engine bay in say... a day or two?

Such as, what can I use to clean the paint which has 12 years of crap on it, without it being so harsh a chemical that it goes THROUGH the paint (ie krud kutter, greased lightning).

Ways to improve the looks of like... the altenator, intake, heads, without taking anything off... just going over them.

Thanks!

Paint thinnner and some good elbow grease will remove a lot of the caked on crap. I also power washed the engine bay with hot soapy water through a 2400psi pressure washer. =)

When you did that, what did you do with the optispark? I've heard stories.

Well I kinda cheated..... here is a picture of what I did.

Then I put the optispark in a pretty safe place where it won't get wet.

LOL granted I can't drop the motor out of the underside of my car, how would i go about covering the opti? Can I just reach down and put a garbage bag or two around it or something?

You can try the garbage bag technique but its hard when you hose off the motor water will flow all over the place. You might try and park the car on a steep incline so that all of the water flows back towards the tranny. FYI - My car just sputtered and wanted to die with even a little trickle of water on the opti.

What I wanna know is how you got a clothes line tied to a lamp to support the entire body of the car.

lol.

i used greased lightening and a bottle of water. spray on the GL, then start scrubbing with toothbrush and papertowels then spray some water, and keep goin at it. basically rinsing off the GL and the grime that you scrub off. took me about 4 good hours to do my entire bay. was well worth it tho.

Which GL did you use? I remember using the in the past, but it was tough enough to cut through paint for sure. I may have been using concentrate, however. I just want to get everything nice and clean and still have a running car and paint in the end.
