Cleaning the engine bay.

Alright well I decided after opening the hood and seeing my engine bay that I need to clean it as soon as possible. Its pretty rough looking, so does anyone have any suggestions on what I should get to clean it up?

Yeah I know about not getting that thing a couple years ago I had the bright idea of power washing in there because I didnt know what an opti was and I burned that up. I was talking about getting rid of all the grease and dirt thats built up in there.

Purple power WILL remove paint, and likely also remove the plating on some parts. Consider something gentler, like Simple Green, and more time with a toothbrush.

I spray everything down with simple green and scrub with a tooth brush, then cover up the opti, and take great care not to spray the front of the engine, hose off the rear/back of the engine compartment and then wipe down with a rag. Tire shine on the elbow, and some armorall on some plastics and your good to go.

Re: Cleaning the engine bay.

Would you guys suggest diluting simple green? My plan is just to spray it on the entire engine bay pretty much (with obvious exceptions) and let it soak for a bit before I spray it down. I'd really like suggestions on what I should cover up and how to do it correctly before any water hits the engine bay. Thanks! I have CTFBA meeting coming up on Saturday and i'd like her to feel pretty!

Re: Cleaning the engine bay.

Dawn dish soap... I won't use anything but dawn and a brush to clean caked on crud from an engine. It won't hurt paint but will remove oil, grease, dirt and wax.
