Cleaned up my LT1 intake

I was going to polish my intake, but I ran out of time. I had about a week to do it and i need more time than I originally though I would.

So I did the next best thing...I cleaned it.

I olished the runners on top of the intake and polished the throttle body where it would be visible.

I also polished the fuel rails. They do not seem to be clean in these pictures as I had a ton of grease on my hands, but the TB and fuel rails look like chrome.

Ill be taking the intake off over the winter and spending a lot more time on it.

My friend polished his, and it turned out great.

That looks really nice. How did you go about polishing it? I've never polished anything except jewelry

Do you use a liquid metal polish and a rag, or do you use some sort of buffer?

Re: Cleaned up my LT1 intake

Thanks guys.

I didnt polish the intake, I rather cleaned it up. I would've polished it, but I did not have as much time as I would've liked to as im in the middle of doing a head/cam swap on the ol' LT1.

Its coming off again in the winter in which time I will polish the bjesus out of it.

You should get your feet wet by practicing on that Holley throttle body. Nice forged billet castings like that can be turned into a perfect mirror. Since it's already machined, it won't take too long to get it perfect: maybe 2 hours tops on a buffing wheel.

Intake cleaned up nice.

I only hand polished the throttle body. It was really easy. I only polished the areas that are going to be visible, nothing else.

It hard to really do any more work with a broken finger, thats why I had to be satisfied with these results.

What did you use to polish it though? If it was a liquid polish, what was it called?

Re: Cleaned up my LT1 intake

Playing first base, 16" softball.

Caought a ball and it jammed my finger a little, no biggie. The second catch after that broke my second finger from the left on the left hand. Its been about a month now, really bad break. An option for a surgery was there but trying to find a surgeon to do it was not that easy. Its healing really good right now, and you'll never be able to tell I had a broken finger other than looking at my xrays.

You can use any polish like Mothers etc. I use an aluminum polish that is sort of a trade secret, and dont want to give that recipe out. You should obtain the same results with any polish though, just depends on how much time/effort you put into it.

Re: Cleaned up my LT1 intake

Question, how would it come out if it was sand blasted?

I glass bead blasted mine to get all the gunk off of it before I started polishing it and it came out pretty decent. Didn't really make it any smoother but it was clean as the day it came off the assembly line. (Inside and out.)
