Changing the Factory Antenna
Changing the Factory Antenna
I've got a very, very newbie question, but I might as well ask here before I do something stupid.
I would like to replace the factory antenna (standard, not powered) on my 2001 Camaro, but I don't seem to know how to get it off. I tried to manually unscrew it with my hand, but that doesn't seem to work. I don't want to put pressure on it and break something without first checking here to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
So do I basically need to take a wrench and just start twisting to the left?

If it's just the regular antenna that always stays up, then get out the appropriate sized wrench and just start turning to the left. Helps if you get a box end wrench so you don't slip and drag the wrench down your quarter panel.
Not necessarily upgrading or anything, the antenna is just kind of bent so I'm replacing it with a new mast that I picked up at AutoZone.
Update: Got the job done quickly and easily, thanks again.

I had a newspaper lady break mine off once. The newspaper was lying on the spoiler of the car in fact, along with the broken antenna.
The next morning, I woke up to a surprise: a newspaper on my porch and a brand new antenna screwed onto the car

Does Ecklers (or someone else) sell a shorty antenna in all metal (as opposed to having the black outer shell)?
I have a silver camaro, and I like the way the shiny metal antenna looks on the car.
